"So,  did you have fun shopping with Daina today?" Anna said, her phone jammed against her ear. She was talking to Seth all afternoon now and she couldn't find it in her to get bored of it. It was like a medicine for her. A medicine for the 'unique' and unexpected morning surprises.

" Please stop joking about it... ", Seth answered, although, she could imagine his dramatic frown from the other end of the line. Anna mentally scolded herself about laughing at his situation. Instead, a small wicked grin played across her lips.

Seth's mother, Morin, was remarring in one week and she had literally forced Seth to escort her best friend's daughter, Daina, to the wedding. Daina was a seventeen year old annoying and bratty girl, with strawberry hair and dark grey eyes. A girl that Seth didn't want to have anything to do with because of her constant whining and clinging on him. Seth couldn't stand being with her for more than a minute and after his mother forced him to go shopping with her, he was boiling with anger inside. And not only from his Daina-problem.

Let's just say that Seth and shopping weren't very close friends. It will be best to keep their distance. It just wasn't his thing. At all...

The whole situation was quite hilarious. Anna just wished she had a first line ticket for the show but unfortunately that couldn't be granted.

Anna lightly chuckle, " I just wish I was there escorting you at the wedding. I'm too good of a person to let you drown at your own misery. But...."

" Yes.... I hoped that too. ", he, instantly, said," I should probably find you a good way of repaying me for your absence "

" Should I be scared? "

" Probably "

They both let out a laugh before the situation's atmosphere change. It became more serious and heavy. And Seth knew what Anna was about to say. Or ask....

A question that he himself didn't know how to answer or how to handle. He just wished he was doing the right thing for everyone. Making sure the right decision... A decision that would probably break his mother's heart but... He had to do it sooner or later, either way.

"Have you told your mom about it yet?"

Seth made a faint, noncommittal noise that Anna knew meant "no." She could hear music in the background; she could picture him lying on his bed, the stereo playing loudly enough as he talked to her. He sounded tired, that sort of bone-deep tired she knew meant that his light tone didn't reflect his mood. She'd asked him if he was all right several times at the beginning of the conversation, but he'd brushed away her concern.

She snorted. "You're playing with fire, Seth. I hope you know that."

"I don't know. Do you really think it's such a big deal?" Seth sounded plaintive. "I mean, I'm not going to leave town or change country. I'm just going to roommate in another house, with a friend, in the other side of the city. I'll still be there for her. I'm just moving out. Will it bother her that much?"

Unfortunately, Seth's father had disappeared out of their lives ten years ago. Dumping and leaving him and his mother alone, hurt, devastated and hugely indebted for too much money. After that horrible day, for Morin, Seth was her whole world. Her everything. He was her oxygen and her strength to go on. To move forward. The only person to keep fighting for. And this marriage was a second chance, not only to find herself and be happy one more time, but also a way to provide Seth with everything he could possibly need. A new family and a new parental model.
