Your pov
Four days later
I finally get to leave today. I got my stitches out two days ago and I can walk. I have to take it easy though. My side and chest will hurt a little but I feel a lot better. My leg is also getting better. I don't have any feeling in my left hand from my hand to my elbow. (I'm right handed, if your left just picture your right hand instead of your left.) the doctor said the bullet hit some nerves. He said I can still play soccer, but I will need to wear a special brace for it. Which I could care less. I'm happy my arm is the only thing that was damaged. It could have been way worse. I will have physical therapy to see if it helps restore some feeling.
We are leaving back to America tomorrow and we are all excited. Everyone is talking about how they are going to spend time with their families. Hope and Alex tried to get me to tag along with them but I want them to spend time with their family. Plus I will be busy with physical therapy and I want to start training again so I can get back into the swing of things. I can't kick a ball around for another 2 weeks. I can't wait to get back to playing.
Skipping the plane ride home.
We just got to the airport and we got off the plane. Everyones family was there waiting for them. I walk past everyone, people smiled at me and I smiled back. I walked to baggage claim and waited to get my bag.
All of a sudden a big group of people came with cameras. They all asked questions at the same time. All their flashes going off and hurting my eyes. I felt someone grab my arm and pull me out of there. They put sunglasses on me and a hoodie. I looked up to see Alex and Tobin.
Thanks I say
Soon security comes and makes them all leave. We are all able to grab our stuff and then most of us hug and head home with their families. Some went and waited for their plane to be called. I walked to the parking lot to find my car.
I struggled to get my suitcase in my trunk only being able to use my right hand. After a few minutes I was able to get it in. That was going to be different. I then drove home back to my apartment. Thankfully I lived on the first floor. I walked inside and wheeled my suitcase in. I decided to wash my clothes now. I got my basket for dirty clothes and put all my clothes into it and then dragged it to the laundry area. I slowly lifted it up using my knee and arm. I grabbed the clothes by the handful and put them in. I then put one of the little pod soap things in and started it. I took my brace off gently and then took the rest of my clothes off and got in the shower. I stood there for a good 10 minutes just letting the warm/hot water hit my body. After I did my business I wrapped a towel around me with some struggle. I dried off got dressed and then brushed my hair out and put it in a bun. I never realized how hard it is to do stuff with one hand. To wash my hair, put my hair up, lift heavy stuff up, to change
I woke up the next morning to texts from the whole team telling me they made it safe. I smiled knowing they are all with their family. I texted them back.
Y/n : I'm glad you all made it home safe! Have a fun two weeks
I locked my phone and slid it in my pocket. I quickly got dressed and headed to the store. I got the stuff I needed. It was mostly milk, eggs, bread, Gatorade, protein powder, cheese, lettuce, turkey, mayonnaise and some chips. I payed for everything and then out everything in my car. I drive home and carry everything in and then the put it away.
Skip the two months
Today is my first practice with an actual team since the Olympics and the shooting. Physical therapy has been good. They said the nerve damage was pretty much permanent. So they showed me how to do stuff with one hand/ arm. Like how to get up if I fall on the field, or if I need to pick stuff up with one hand, I know how to put my hair up with one hand, i can tie my shoes with one hand, I can tie my bikini with one hand. It took a lot of practice and it still takes me a few try's but for the most part I'm a lot better at it from two months ago. All of my injuries have healed. The bruising is gone.
I leave for Portland to play for the Portland Thorns FC with Tobin, Alex, Kling, Lindsey, and Allie. I'm excited to see some of the girls again. It's definitely different when we were all training for the Olympics. We still FaceTime and call so it's pretty fun.
I'm pretty much leaving everything here. I'm taking a suitcase full of clothes and that's pretty much it. I plan on just buying stuff when I get to Portland. I'm thinking about staying on this team as long as they want to sign me. I've always wanted to play for Portland Thorns.
Skipping the plane ride to Portland
I just got off the plane and I walk to the shuttles that take us into the airport. I get out and walk to go down the escalator. I look up from my phone to see Alex, Tobin, Kling, and Allie.
They run torwords me and I drop my bag and hug them.
"Surprise!" Says Alex
"I missed you guys!" I say
"We missed you too!" Says Tobin
"How's the leg?" I ask
"Good! Fully healed, I'm able to keep up with Alex again. She responds lifting her shorts up to show the scar. While Alex laughs at her comment
"That's good!" I respond back
"What about you? How's the leg, side arm and chest?"Asks Kling
"Everything is healed gun shot wise. I still don't have feeling from my fingers to my elbow though but I've been doing physical therapy for it and it's going good." I respond
"That's awesome!" She says
After that I go back and pick my bag up. Then we go to baggage claim to get my suitcase. They drop me off at the apartment office so I can get my key. I'm across the way from Tobin and Alex. They decided to room together. Same with Kling and Allie. I'm just glad I got a room even near them.
The people tried to give me a discount because of my arm but I declined. The state tried to do the same thing with a disabled handicap placard. I declined that also. There's people that have it way worse then me. Plus my legs are fine. I think it would be wrong of me to have it.
Tomorrow is our first practice and I'm not going to lie, I'm scared to get back on the field. I haven't kicked a ball in almost three months. I did have a Skype call with the coach and she said if I needed to I can ease my way back into training. Which I'm grateful that she believes in me.
Kling, Alex, Tobin and Allie came over to my room and we got to catch up on everything that happened the last few months.
