The sun was setting in the orange sky: pinks and soft yellows blended together with the strewn about clouds across the atmosphere, like pulled apart cotton. It was quiet in the soft, warm, subtle forest and the wild life had just finished the day and were retreating back to their burrows, nests, or other homes in the trees and undergrowth. The canaries whistled their last tunes until the sun rose again, and the sound was faint and dulcet, as were the dim showing of the early shining stars that peeked through the lemonade sky.

All was still and hushed in the calm forest, all but a girl whose H/C swayed as she waltzed familiarly through the trees freely and expertly as would a ballet dancer across a grand stage. The pink lipped smile which was held to her lips contrasted against the mischievous glimmer in her E/C eyes. Her feet hurried in an eager march as she hummed a tune of one she heard when venturing into the outskirts of a human village, which thrived a little ways from the forest which the elvish girl called her home. This time of day was her freedom, the time she could truly go and see what the elders forbade the civilians of the forest curiosity to wander: the humans.

Man kind.

The elders say that the humans are cause tyranny and fear in the heart of the forest. That man is destructive, selfish, and never gentle with life other than their own. That they burn and take and pillage. The elders say that to keep the home of the forest safe, that they need to hide; to stay away from them.

______ was different.

She wanted to see the world beyond the elfish forest that she's known for so long. She wants to see humans for more than what the elders made them out to be. _______ wanted to meet a human and see for herself how they're nature truly was. Of course it wasn't going long ago because of a broken treaty between the humans and the elf people, the relations between both races could no longer remain in tact and after a while the humans had forgotten about the forest people labeling them as myths; former children stories. The elders say that the only way to reveal oneself to the humans, were to be if one with a pure heart were to feel a deep, heart aching loneliness; only then would they be able to see such a thing.

To be honest, ______ had already seen a human, a couple actually, not up close though. Times when she would leave the forest's confinement, her eyes would catch the sight of a couple of men who wore clothes that were weirdly patterned on her account. Hooked to their pants were a strap-y looking stretchy band which clamped on two iron teeth in the front and only one in the back. Their feet were covered by a durable rubber covering held together with lace of some sort.

Why were they wearing that?

Humans were funny.

In the forest, the only fashions that she was accustomed to were the animal hide coverings and fur dressings. The needed not a silly foot cover, for the elfish people were close to the earth and communicated with nature through touch. They would occasionally enter the mouth of the forest, wielding their axes to collect lumber to take back to the human town, but never ventured farther than that. _______ often wondered why? She felt that she would never come to the understanding of the human thinking. Another time when she was younger. Before then, she wasn't old enough to mind the elders words. The H/C girl met young boy near the river close to her village. He was ignorant and hadn't even noticed that she was hiding behind the dark colored bark of a spruce wood tree. He looked sad but too timid and mindful of the warnings from her people she kept her distance. Humans had seemed scary to her back then.

Looking back on it now, it was a silly thought.

The elfish girl emerged from the shrubbery at the entrance of the forest opening and glanced around her surroundings. The sun had set more and indigo had begun visiting to warn that night would soon be falling. The small smile on _______'s lips stretched into a grin as she forwarded her stride to a vacant shoreline a little ways  to the east of the human town. ________ found a lot of interesting things there left or forgotten by the humans; like small trinkets or little human tools.
