Chapter 15: Blackened Soul
Peter
I stood surrounded by the dying sanctuary. My home... my safe place... destroyed. The one place where I wasn't different. I wasn't just the boy that could fly, the boy that wasn't like everyone else. The boy that would never grow up. Here I was a king... and now it was all destroyed.
A flash of something I've never felt before washed over me. It vibrated through my bones and caused my fists to clench so tightly I broke skin. I stared up at Hook all my emotions flickering at once. I clutched my dagger tightly in my hand and pounced at him.
He had already guessed my move and was ready to defend himself. He deflected my dagger easily, causing it to go flying out of my hand. His sword landed a shallow gash across my chest but I didn't feel the pain. It only caused me to urge on with more aggression.
I used my ability of flight and circled around him. He waved his sword foolishly in the air trying to swipe at me but it wasn't working. His hand caught my ankle unexpectedly and he pulled me down to the ground again.
I landed on my hands and knees but was up on my feet faster then how I landed. I spun around and was immediately hit across the face with the back of Hooks sword.
I fell to the ground spitting out blood but wasn't about to give up. Hook grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled me through the sanctuary avoiding any flames or fallen branches.
He threw me onto the damp forest floor in front of him and pointed his sword to my chest. I gazed around me in confusion. We were no longer in the sanctuary. There were no flames, just the stars and moon and a light gust of wind causing the leaves on trees to dance.
It was so odd how the fire didn't spread. Like it never happened, like it was all just a hallucination. But the sword at my throat and the pain in my ribs told me that it was all real.
The anger flared inside of me like hot water boiling. But I couldn't find the strength to move.
"Why." Was all I said my voice firm although I felt as if a blade was cutting through me from the inside.
"You can thank your dearest Wendy for all of this." Captain Hook said in amusement gesturing towards the smoke and ash. My heart thudded in my chest.
She couldn't... she wouldn't. How could she possibly be the cause for all of this.
"Conflicted are we." Hook laughed.
"Shut up!" I yelled spitting in his face. He wiped away the saliva from his face calmly.
"You could have prevented it boy. Years ago, if you just joined my side we would have ruled this land together."
"What about Will?" I snapped aware that he never included his own son into his plan.
"He's... a working progress."
"He always was in your eyes." I smirked and he flickered his sword to my throat drawing blood.
"You haven't seen what I've seen boy, haven't witnessed the years that I have, so tell me how could you possibly know what I see in Will?" He asked bitterly, staring into my eyes.
His eyes were so black and empty. I remember briefly of a time when they were so full of light and wisdom. I looked up to those eyes as a child knowing that one day I'd be just like him.
Of course that was before his soul turned black. Suddenly, a scream echoed through what used to be the sanctuary and my heart did a leap in my chest.
"Wendy." I whispered my hands began to shake. She ran, she escaped... at least I thought she did. My eyes zeroed in on Hook and it took me everything I had not to snap his neck right then and there.
