Chapter 16: Taming the Beast
Peter
My chest rose and fell as I sucked in the slightly chilled night air. The light of the fire had died down to a single flame leaving me alone in the dark. I wasn't technically alone though.
The hum of the fairies filled my ears and echoed through my skull. They were scared and furious and most of all confused. They sent accusations my way, how they trusted me, how they had faith in me. I couldn't take it any longer.
I covered my ears with my hands and hid my face in my knees. "Shut up!" I shot through my head even though knowing well enough nothing would quite them now.
But when I stopped and listened, there was silence. Surely my wrath had not silenced them... no it was something else. And then I heard it faintly in the distance.
A sound unfamiliar to my ears... or more like long forgotten. Possibly an animal sound? But why would the fairies be so frightened of that? And then it hit me all at once.
It was a howl.
Wendy
It howled to the sky as if it were talking to the moon, it's sounds laced with hunger. I stared at the beast frozen in my spot. It growled at us showing glistening white sharp daggers for teeth. Drool hung from it's mut like mouth dripping to the ground with a splat.
It's face resembled a wolf but it's size was certainly larger than one. It's tail whisked back and forth behind it as if it were taunting us. The fur around his body was short and thin barely able to blow in the breeze.
Muscle rippled through it's legs as it slowly circled the small clearing never moving it's eyes from mine. I could feel the sickening feeling of fear more than ever now in the pit of my stomach.
I almost forgot that Scorpios was there until he laced his fingers around my elbow and pulled me behind him. I reluctantly let him mostly because I had forgotten how to move my legs on my own.
"Wendy run." Those two words, barely even audible still struck me hard like a blow to the stomach. I didn't like to be told what to do especially in situations like this. I've already been told and obeyed to those two words tonight and that turned out just splendid.
I was not about to make that mistake again. I snapped out of my trance finally able to actually form words and move my own limbs. "Like hell I'm going anywhere." I hissed at Scorpios. He turned his head back at me keeping his eyes on the beast.
"How am I not surprised." He hissed back then pulled something out of his belt. He handed me the pistol and I took it with shaky hands.
"And don't be afraid to shoot." He then stepped towards the beast weapon at the ready. I could have sworn the thing smirked but it was gone faster then it came on. A growl escaped it's lips and it headed for us with a viscous howl.
Peter
I scrambled up knowing well enough what that howl came from. But it disappeared for years upon years. Along with Hook. Hook. He is the cause of this. He must have something to do with the return of that beast.
I need to find it and destroy it for good. I glanced down at my clothing. Blood and dirt stained the front of my ripped shirt as well as my hands. The only weapon I possessed at the moment was my dagger and that wouldn't get me anywhere.
I needed to find the boys they'de be pretty worried by now. I began floating up when something grabbed my arm and pulled me down harshly. Something was put over my head so I wasn't able to see anything and before I could fight back something hard came to contact with my head knocking me into blackness.
