Chapter 6: Scorpios Hook
Peter
*Flashback*
The thick summer fog lay low over the black water leaving an uneasy feeling in my gut. The full moon glowed luminously above the clouds, filing the land bellow it with a source of light.
They talked to each other in tongue and glanced around suspiciously. The fog made them uneasy as it did for me, and they must have clued in that the sun set at a very early time today. A few of them left at a time carrying their fishing equipment and any fish they caught from the day.
As soon as the last one of them was out of hearing range I gripped my flute in my hands and blew in a quick and simple melody. After a few breathless moments Fox came sprinting out of the fog whistling the same four note melody.
I crawled out from under the canoe and met Fox by the water. He stood tall with brownish red hair that hadn't been cut in a while and cloths that came from the slums.
"So Pet what's the plan?" He asked eyeing the black water.
"Why do you always expect that I have a plan?" I asked glancing in his direction. He turned to me with an eyebrow up.
"Because it's you and you always have a plan." He retorted smugly elbowing me in the gut.
I shrugged. "You have a point, now here is the plan..." He chuckled quietly and listened to what I had to say carefully.
"Ok, do you get it?" I asked ruffling my blonde hair with my hand. He nodded then walked over to the canoe.
Grabbing a pair of oars, I glanced around for any forgotten weapons that Fox and I could use. I frowned in disappointment for there wasn't one weapon left behind. I guess we have to make do with what we have, two pocket knives and my fist. Turning around, I found Fox trying to flip over one of the canoes. I went up beside him and helped him flip the canoe. It was definitely heavier then it looked.
Pushing it into the water, we grabbed the oars and jumped in. The fog grew thicker as we rowed further into the unknown. My arms grew tired and weak, but I couldn't give up, not now.
I caught Fox's eye. He was exhausted and I could tell he wanted a break. "Fox, you know we can't stop now. The boys are counting on us." I said staring at him. The wind picked up blowing Fox's hair ever so slightly.
"Your right, like always." He said then picked up his oar again and gestured for me to do the same. I sighed then continued rowing forward despite the burn I felt in my arms.
Finally, there was a clearing in the fog and the great pirate ship floated upon the water. There was no sign of life on the ship, all lanterns were burned out and it was so quiet the only thing you could hear was the sound of the waves crash and rock the boat.
"My God, look at the size of that thing." Fox said scratching his head. "How are we getting on to it?" He asked staring up at the great ship. I analyzed the ship carefully and something caught my eye. A ladder hung low enough for Fox and I to reach it and climb up to the deck.
"Fox, keep rowing forward toward the boat. I think I know how to get up on deck." We continued rowing till we reached the side of the ship. Fox pointed up to the ladder saying, "You expect me to climb that?"
I rolled my eyes. "Quiet your voice down someone could hear you." We climbed up the ladder hoping not to make a sound. The wood scratched my palms leaving splinters in the wounds. I reached the main deck and waited for Fox to do the same. I stayed crouched and glanced around the deck searching for any sign of life.
