Chapter 20
Recap: The cellar was indeed full of many cells lined with bars and would have been very useful to keep prisoners in if it weren't for the shelves lined with bottles upon bottles of liquor and the barrels crowding the cells. I fell onto my knees and looked back as the door shut. I heard the click of the door locking. Now I was left in this cellar with absolutely no way out and no way of knowing what happened to Scorpios. I was cold and hungry and alone... no not alone. There was someone in here with me and I was about to find out who.
Wendy
There was movement in one of the cells in the far corner. The cellar was dark with candles as the only light source so I couldn't make out who or what was in that last cell. I grabbed one of the lit wax candles and stepped forward.
I had a plan; if it was some blood thirsty monster I could burn it with the candle then try to lock it in the cell. If it was a drunken pirate then I'd talk him into getting me out of this place. When I got close to the cell and was about to look in, someone jumped- well more like wobbled- out holding a rum bottle over there head.
I yelped and stepped back. But the person who jumped out dropped the bottle as soon as the light shone on my face.
"Wendy?" Scorpios whispered and my stomach fluttered in delight. Then he fell forward and I had to catch him before he hit the ground. We almost both tumbled over but Scorpios caught himself before that could happen. He stumbled away from me and sat back inside the cell with his back against the wall.
"Sorry, just all the bloodloss has made me dizzy." I was so thrilled to see him I completely forgot about his bullet wound.
"Is the bullet..."
He cut me off. "Out? Ya I finally got it out a few hours ago." I tried not to picture that image. I set the candle down on a barrel and kneeled down beside him. I examined his face; full of soot and damp with sweat. In short he looked awful and I needed to help him.
This was going to sound really awkward but it was the only way I could help him. "Can you show me your wound." He stared at me a long moment and I prayed that he wouldn't make a snarky comment. "Why?" He asked after a long agonizing pause. "So I can examine the damage." I said trying to make it sound obvious and trying to hide my nervousness. It wasn't working very well. But Scorpios didn't say anything to my relief. Instead he shrugged and lifted his shirt to point out his wound.
My breath caught in my throat at the sight of him. He was all lean muscle and it would be wrong not to stare at something so beautiful. Instead he was beautiful. Breathtaking face, breathtaking body, breathtaking sword skills, is there anything not breathtaking about this boy? Even his annoying personality was breathtaking because after every single fight we've had I'm left catching my breath because of how much he gets under my skin.
"Wendy the wound is over here." He pointed to his side and I felt the blood rush to my face. I didn't dare glance at his face for I already knew there was a smug look written all over it. Damn him and his cockiness. If he was ugly this would all be so much easier. I turned my gave over to his right side to check out his wound. It wasn't as bad as I suspected it to be. The bleeding had stopped thankfully, maybe Scorpios had enough sense to put pressure on it.
"Why did they put you in here?" Scorpios asked me as I tore off a part of my blouse to clean up his wound.
"Well I had a nice little chat with the captain and as you can see it didn't turn out so well." I explained being as truthful as possible. I could feel his eyes on me and I looked up. "Don't worry nothing bad happened I got no where with my questions and neither did he. I'm pretty sure he was planning on sending me here regardless of what wen down." I explained and his worried expression softened slightly.
