Chapter 14: Dreams of a Queen Part 2
The vegetation thickened around us as we continued to walk through the forest. Leaves from either side of me brushed against my skin leaving fading white marks in it's path. I swatted at the branches angrily not paying attention to where I was going.
The next thing I knew I had bumped right into Peter's still figure.
"Sorry." I muttered stepping back a step in embarrassment. He didn't respond but just kept gazing straight ahead of him. I glanced over his shoulder and realized that he had pulled away a chunk of the branches.
"We're here." Peter said glancing over his shoulder at me. His eyes shone with little lights that I realized were reflecting from behind the wall of leaves, branches and vines. He stepped forward through the leaves and I followed him in.
My breath hitched when I took in the sight in front of me. Large trees with twisted trunks and drooping branches lined the clearing. Lights of every colour you could ever imagine danced through the branches and cast a magical glow over the clearing.
A buzz filled the air and I strained my ears to hear what it was. It was like tiny bells were ringing a beautiful tune that I've never heard. It was like being in a dream. A dream you never wanted to wake up from.
"What is this place?" I asked in awe not being able to pull my eyes away from the scene.
"The Fairy Sanctuary." I tore my gaze away from the trees and stared at him in astonishment. He smiled down at me his eye reflecting with the lights. It was clear he wasn't joking.
His eyes seemed to shine brighter than usual. He looked mesmerizing. I glanced back at the trees and realized that the lights I saw before were actually fairies.
"It's beautiful." I murmured then felt Peter's fingers intertwine with mine. I looked down at our hands and felt the heat flood to my cheeks.
"Come on it's better when you're closer." He said and pulled me behind him through two luminous trees. Little holes filled with light were scattered around the trees like little windows. The music grew louder the more we were engulfed into the sanctuary. And along with the music the glowing light seemed to shine brighter with each step.
Suddenly, some of the fairies floated from the trees and flew through the air around use. They danced around us like fireworks singing and laughing with the music.
I was yanked down, suddenly, and landed on the soft ground beside Peter. We lay there in silence watching the fairies dance and sing. Many came to Peter and seemed to talk to him but I didn't understand what they were saying it just sounded like jingling. I just stared at them admiring their odd beauty.
"Can you understand what they are saying?" I asked turning my head to look at him. Peter nodded with a half hearted smile. I waited patiently for him to explain further.
"A few years ago I- I was given these powers... to fly and be able to talk to them, by the fairies." He said and I propped myself up on my elbow to face him.
"Why were you given these powers?" I asked and that's when he looked up at me. His face was serious and it felt wrong.
"You shouldn't hear about this." Peter said and sat up wrapping his arms around his knees in the process. I sat up with him.
"No please tell me. I want to know." I pleaded scooting closer to him. He peered over at me studying me like he was working something out in his mind.
"I almost died and well the fairies saved me." He said and I blinked at him not sure how to respond to what he said.
"How..." Blurted out but wasn't able to finish.
