[ c ha p t e r 4]

I felt my heart beating as I ran through the narrow building. I coughed as dust and mold entered my lungs. My feet were moving so fast I thought I was going to trip. My arm supporting underneath zero.

I watched Zero in front of me as he ran with a small limp, almost making no sound. He didn't stop he just kept moving making a turn here and there. If I didn't know any better I would have thought he knew where he was going.

he made an abrupt stop in his motions. He entered a room, it looked like a living room. There was an old bookcase at the far end he walked over to it and easily pushed it to the left. I stepped back amazed by his strength.

Behind the bookcase was a fairly large whole. He beckoned me closer. He went in his backpack and pulled out a paper. I noticed a book on the shelve it was blue with gold trim it stood out against the others. I quickly picked it up and shoved it in my bag.

I turned around and Zero placed an object in my hand. He wrapped his hands around my enclosing the object in. He gave me a serious look.

"Keep this safe." he said.

"Why can't you?" I asked confused. I looked at the object, it looked like a flashdrive but I wasn't entirely sure.

"Just be quiet and get in the hole." he said.

I obeyed and stepped inside the wall immediately. I took a few steps when I realized Zero wasn't following me.

"What are you doing?" I asked panicking.

"I'm not going with you, you need to stay here. I'm going to take another route my leg is still bad and in won't be able to go that way, just stay here and be quiet. I'll be back."

I grabbed his hand holding onto it tightly, "Wait, don't leave me!" I choked out.

"It's okay, I'll be right back." he said with a slight smirked pushing the book case over the hole and leaving me in darkness.

I couldn't hear anything but the shallowness of my breathing. I tried to calm down and convince myself that everything would be okay. I knew that there would be only two outcomes to my decision.

I would either die when and if we were caught for my rebelling and aiding of a criminal. Or outcome number two, Zero and I would make it out alive and we would be "free" whatever that means.  This was my decision, and I was going to just have to live with any and all of the consequences.

I do however relapse, and cry as I thought of my father, he would be so disappointed in me. Everything I ever did wouldn't be good enough. Just when I thought things were looking up. It was too late, I made my decision, I was going with Zero now. My eyes began to droop as exhaustion crept over my body. I struggled to keep myself alert, I found myself thinking of old memories.

"You want to move your hand like this, it makes the water look like its jumping off the page." she said moving my hand so it matched hers.

"Color is also important use this white it looks like foam." she said handing me a pale white with a hint of blue.

I moved my hands but it didn't look like hers. My ocean couldn't compare to hers.

"Almost. Here watch mommy again." she asked.

I watched her hand the amount of pressure she used. I watched how she curved her lines. She left me to myself to continue working. I tried again and again.

I remember each time getting better and closer to effect. It wasn't good enough if it wasn't perfect. I was always a little more mature for my age... Well I always had a little more patience.
