[ C h a p t e r 5]Today we walked for an even larger amount time; soundless and not speaking. It was comforting and eerie at the same time, the type of comfort you get before something awful happens.
We had been for walking nearly a week now. Neither one of us wanted to break the silence and there was little to no communication. Not a sound could be heard around us. Almost like every animal knew that we were in their presence.
I watched zero, no doubt he was attractive. He could make any girl weak in the knees even I but He was also mysterious.
There is so much I still have yet to learn about him, Like his family, and most importantly why he was in this situation. He also seemed rude and full of himself at times.
Instead of asking him questions, I stayed silent. Unable to speak, I let my curiosity eat me from the inside out. It was killing me, but I just couldn't bring myself to utter a single word. It was as if my lips were locked. So I just walked quietly..
I walked staring at him in awe, he would glance at me from time to time. I would look away because his stare was intense and bitter. It didn't make me uncomfortable just uneasy I guess. It was probably because he knew almost nothing about me and I didn't know much about him, which is exactly why I should be asking him questions.
I stepped where zero stepped, I walked slower than his pace. Only because I didn't want to injure myself and maybe because I wanted to take in the new area. The forest looked dark and uninviting. I saw something out of the corner of my eye.
I whipped my head around and saw blue. The color stuck out against the dark trees. I made my way over to the heavy foliage. I stepped over rocks getting closer.
"Natalie." Zero said calling out to me.
I turned around looking at him, "Can I?" I asked for permission to go further.
He nodded before following behind me. As I pushed the vines and branches away I stepped backed amazed by what I found. It was a meadow, as big as a football field. It was full of Gypsophila, more commonly known as baby's breath.
They were a beautiful shade of blue. I only knew of the flower because it was extremely rare and it was my mothers favorite flower. I missed her so much.
She said I reminded her of them because I was delicate and soft like them. I didn't want to think about her, to have the pain of her memory engulf me so I ran through the field, running through the flowers.
I ran until it hurt to breathe, until my rib cage ached, and for a moment everything was okay. Everything was simple. It wasn't silent, no not here, here it sounded alive.
When it stopped and my mother invaded my mind, I began to run again. I ran across the field, as I was running I came across a colony of butterflies. They flew up from the flowers creating a cloud.
I fell back in shock, I let the glowing sun soak in my skin; the rays warming me instantly. I wish it could always be this simple.
I felt Zero sit next to me, trampling flowers with his body. He was near perfection, with his sun-kissed skin and soft curls. I watched as his fingers played with the strings of his hoody there was no way that these hands could've killed anyone.
There was simply no way those hands could've ended someone's life; I just couldn't picture it. But the world is a cruel place, looks are as deceiving as words, and that is life plain and simple.
Glancing up, I saw that his dark green eyes were focused on me, I looked down flustered. I mentally scolded myself for being so coy around him.
My skin heated from blushing despite my efforts to hide it. I felt his rough hands lift my chin up slightly, I was now forced to look at him.
