Dipper lies awake in bed, replaying his conversation with Wendy over in his head. He checks the time; it is 1 in the morning. They stayed up till midnight watching Ducktective, and Mabel still isn't back. Dipper sighs.
"I hope she's alright," he says aloud. "Should I have gone with her? Is that what brothers are supposed to do?"
He pauses, remembering their conversation, and how Mabel seemed like she was trying to hide her disappointment.
"I probably would've been a hindrance," Dipper says. "It's not like I have the ability to help in any way!" Dipper frowns.
"She'll be back tomorrow," Dipper says.
He closes his eyes and forces himself to sleep.
"Augh!" Mabel screams in pain, as she lands on her arm.
"Ugh...where are we...!? Guys?" Mabel shouts, darkness overtaking her vision.
She hears strained meows in reply.
"Ow," Mabel groans through clenched teeth, holding up her hand.
She tries to move it on her own, but it doesn't respond well to her brain's commands.
"I think I broke my wrist!" Mabel cries. "Guys?"
Finally, she feels a paw on her foot.
"This better be the right way," Mabel grumbles. "If this is all for nothing, I'm gonna strangle something,"
The cats meow, signaling her to follow. After taking a moment to cringe at the numbness of her wrist, she follows the sound.
She runs into a wall again.
"Ugh," Mabel grunts.
Wait a minute, Mabel thinks, this doesn't feel like the rest of the walls I've felt...this is a door!
Mabel knocks; it's hollow.
She feels around, and finds a small metal doorknob.
She twists it, and then they are overwhelmed with bright light.
Mabel yells, squinting her eyes.
"I'm guessing this is your room, White Mage?" Mabel grumbles.
The white cat nods.
The cats lead her out of White Mage's room into another hall, but this one is dimly lit by torches.
"Are we close to Dark Mage's room?" Mabel asks, glancing down at them.
The cats nod vigorously, taking the lead again.
Mabel can finally see what her wrist looks like in the light; it doesn't look natural. It's slanted at an angle that makes Mabel go pale.
"Okay, Mabel, you got this! Dipper got through more than a broken wrist; so can you!" Mabel cheers herself on, catching up to the cats.
They stand in front of a black marble door, blood stains on the walls around.
"How welcoming!" Mabel says.
The cats peek through a crack in the bottom, and sit back up, dashing back down the hall and into White Mage's room.
Mabel follows.
When they reach White Mage's room, White Mage runs over to the bed, and tries to push it aside with her body. Mabel helps, and then Gray joins. The bed is moved to the side, and Mabel takes a break, huffing.
"Why is you're bed so heavy!?" Mabel asks. "Also, why'd we move it in the first...place...?"
Mabel's voice fades out when she sees a secret door on the floor where White Mage's bed just was.
"Cool! Dipper would...love...this,"
Mabel starts, and ends with a sigh.
"Anyway...where does it lead?"
Mabel opens the door, and the cats reply by jumping down into the doorway and taking the lead.
"Got it!" Mabel says, following.
They walk down some steps, which leads to another hallway. They walk through the hall for a few minutes, and then go back up some steps. They get to another door, lit with torches.
Mabel opens it and walks through.
They are in a closet.
Mabel pushes her way out of the closet, and sees she's in Gray's bedroom.
"Okay," Mabel says. "So why are we here?"
Gray paws over to a chest and props it open with her paw.
Inside, there are multiple potions.
White Mage paws at a clear one.
Mabel picks it up and reads the label.
Invisibility potion.
"Hope it tastes good, unlike those movie ones!" Mabel says, taking out the cork.
She can almost imagine Gray replying with, of course it's good, dummy! You know I only like sweet things!
Mabel takes a sip, and then puts the stuff back into the chest. Within seconds, Mabel is invisible to the rest of the world.
"Whoa, this is sooooo cool!" Mabel squeals. "Even my clothes are invisible!"
Gray twitches her tail in amusement, and White Mage just slowly blinks, the cat equivalent of an eye-roll.
The cats lead Mabel back out and back in front of Dark Mage's door.
The cats hide against the wall by the door, and Mabel follows their example. They wait.
Though it was only a minute later that the door swung open, it felt like 10 minutes.
Dark Mage came bustling out, scurrying down the hall.
The cats run inside of the room, and Mabel dashes in beside them.
There, peacefully sleeping, are White Mage and Gray's bodies, on Dark Mage's bed. Each is holding a white rose.
"Ew," Mabel grimaces. "Okay, this is a little disturbing,"
White Mage rushes over on top of a desk, and paws at a book on a nearby shelf.
Mabel picks up the book, and reads the cover title.
Ancient Spells to use with Caution.
Mabel goes to the index, finds page 1,606, and reads the spell description aloud.
"The rising spell: use on lifeless being you desire to rejuvenate," Mabel says. "Okay, here it goes,"
But right before Mabel has the chance to read it, Dark Mage slams the door open, running inside. Mabel immediately puts the book down and right before she starts to freak out, remembers she is invisible.
She holds her breath.
The cats have scurried under the bed.
"Thank you, sisters," Dark Mage laughs, grinning. "Your lifeless bodies are going to get me onto Bill's apocalypse team,"
Dark Mage takes one moment to stare at the dead bodies before pulling open a drawer by the bed. Inside the drawer, there are two bottles of blood; blood from White Mage and Gray.
"This is all the proof he'll need," Dark Mage mumbles to herself, running back out, closing the door behind her.
Mabel clears her throat.
She lets out the breath she was holding in, and says, "G-Guys? You okay?"
The cats come out from under the bed and nod, a little shaken up.
"Alright...let's do this!" she says, closing her eyes, and taking deep breaths.
"IRHV! Gzpv yzxp blfi ulihzpvm hlfoh! IRHV!" Mabel screams, dark energy pulsing around her. White Mage hides under the bed.
Gray the cat suddenly passes out, growling. Mabel can hear growling from under the bed where White Mage is at, too.
There's one last flash of dark energy, and Mabel is on the ground.
She sits up, groaning, and opens her eyes to see a hand held out to her.
She looks up. White Mage, back in her rightful body, is trying to help her up, with a big smile.
Gray is just waking up behind her.
The cats turn back to the colors they were before they were possessed, and run away, scared.
Mabel grabs White Mage's hand and stands up.
"Great, you guys are back!" Mabel laughs happily.
"Wow, it feels so good to be able to talk again! There were so many things I wanted to tell you!" White Mage laughs. "Though I can't remember now. One thing I do remember I must tell you, is...thank you so much!"
Mabel smiles.
"Anytime! But, how can you see me?" Mabel asks.
"The potion must've worn off...or maybe you blasted the effects off when you were performing a powerful spell such as that," White Mage explains.
"We're lucky we're all powerful mages or that spell could've gone very wrong," Gray grunts.
"Yeah, that potion really came in handy!" Mabel winks, staying positive. "Anyway, what's the next step?"
"Now we stop Dark Mage from making a deal with Bill," Gray grunts, rubbing her head.
Dipper wakes up again at 3 in the morning, screaming.
He sits up and hyperventilates, trying to calm down, when he hears footsteps.
Within seconds, Stan is in the room and at his side.
"Hey, hey, you're okay," Stan comforts, patting his back. "What's wrong, kid?"
"I...I-I...I don't know," Dipper stutters, rubbing his head.
"Listen, you look like ya had a bad dream," Stan sighs, sitting next to him. "I get those all the time,"
"You do...?" Dipper asks.
"Oh, yeah. Y'see, when somethin' bad happens to you, no matter how old you get, it always hunts you down, eventually," Stan sighs.
"That sounds depressing," Dipper mumbles.
"So, what's the root of the nightmare?" Stan asks.
"Well...I kept seeing yellow triangles or something. They kept...whispering in my ears, telling me to do terrible things, bringing terrible images to my head!" Dipper says, his stress heightening again.
"Hey, kid, relax! It's over now," Stan says, patting his back again.
"But when will the nightmare stop coming...? When will it stop coming every night?" Dipper whispers, closing his eyes.
"It won't, not entirely," Stan says. "But when you wake up, you know you've always got someone to talk to,"
Dipper opens his eyes, and looks up at Stan, who smiles at him.
"Thank you...wow, I feel...surprisingly calm now," Dipper smiles brightly.
"See, I may not be a great cook, but I'm good for somethin'!" Stan laughs, putting his arm around him and roughly ruffling his hair.
"Hey, ouch!" Dipper laughs, playfully pushing his hand away.
"Alright, get some rest, ya hear?" Stan smiles. "I'm always right downstairs,"
Stan walks out, and Dipper sighs happily.
"Mabel was right. I have gotten to know them more," Dipper says.
He lays back down and closes his eyes, ready to face his nightmare.
In the black of his vision, another demon triangle suddenly appears, whispering gibberish, yet somehow, he understands.
He sits up on his bed again, sweating and breathing heavily.
"It's...name...is Bill," Dipper whispers, his pupils large. He shakes his head, pupils returning back to normal. "What...what did I just say...!?"
"So, ya did it, huh, Mage #1?" Bill laughs, looking at the viles of blood Dark Mage is holding up. "Y'know, I'm impressed! Didn't think ya had it in ya to kill your own family!"
"Well...I do," Dark Mage bows. "And that's why I believe I am worthy of a spot on your team for Weirdmageddon,"
"Hmm, I like your moxie!" Bill nods, mixing the blood in a floating wine glass. "Y'know, I might just--"
The door bursts open, and White Mage, Gray, and Mabel emerge.
"Stop right there!" Mabel yells.
White Mage, using that split second of Dark Mage's surprise to her advantage, wraps her in several thick light whips.
"Aug...! No! NO!" Dark Mage shrieks, steam rising from where the whips are tightening.
"Haha, speak of the DEVIL! Just as I was about ta let ya join, thinking you'd ridden yourself of those unstable sisters!" Bill laughs. "Sorry, toots, can't have this stuff gettin' in my way!"
"No, please...! Please reconsider!" Dark Mage yells.
"Hey, wanna see what your face will look like in about three seconds!?" Bill asks. He does an impression of Dark Mage screaming angrily, and then disappears.
Dark Mage, of course, screams angrily.
"You...can't ruin...this...for me!" Dark Mage yells, trying to wriggle free.
"Sorry, we just did!" Mabel smiles, holding out her hand to Gray. Gray hesitates, but eventually accepts her high-five.
"Don't worry, sister mine, I'm not as cold hearted as you--I'm not going to kill you," White Mage grins. "I'm just going to lock you up like you did me when I wasn't following your terms,"
Mabel, Gray, and White Mage watch from a small window as Dark Mage screams inside of her locked room, which is pulsing light energy every five seconds.
"That should hold her!" White Mage smiles.
Mabel turns to Gray, and tries to cut to the chase a bit.
"Listen, I wanna know...did you ever get my letter I sent you...?" Mabel asks.
Gray widens her eyes.
"You...sent a letter?" Gray mutters.
"Yeah! Darn, you didn't get it!?" Mabel complains, sighing.
"Nope," Gray admits. "I kinda thought you'd...stopped. So...what did the letter say?"
"This," Mabel replies, giving Gray a big hug.
Once again, Gray widens her eyes in shock, before hugging back. Gray smiles.
Mabel backs up, rubbing the back of her neck.
"I'm soooo sorry!" Mabel cries, after letting Gray process what just happened a bit, folding her hands as if begging for mercy. "I was so stupid for holding a grudge. And stuff with Dipper's been crazy...can we start over...?"
Gray smiles, that old gleam in her eye back where it belongs.
"No," Gray winks. "But we can start where we left off!"
Mabel smiles really big.
"Ice cream...?" Mabel laughs.
"Yep!" Gray squeals.
They both take off down the hall, their friendship stitched back together, even stronger than before.
White Mage stands outside of Dark Mage's cell door, still watching her.
"Augh!" Dark Mage screams in pain from the constant pulsing. "Sisters...MARK MY WORDS...I will escape! And when I do, you will burn!" Dark Mage screams.
White Mage frowns, sighing, and turning away.
"And if I ever get my hands on that Mabel," Dark Mage hisses. "She'll get worse than what I did to Dipper's brain! You can count on that!"
White Mage shakes her head and walks away.
"Go ahead...ignore me," Dark Mage whispers to herself maniacally. "All the easier to escape unnoticed,"
She laughs uncontrollably, and snaps her fingers, dark energy somehow still thriving, living off of her anger, forming into a flame above her index finger, even though it only lasts a few seconds.
That tiny flame gave Dark Mage the most dangerous weapon she could possibly have acclaimed. Hope.
But little does she or anyone else know, the key to her escape is lurking right outside of her cell door.(Note: let me just say something that needs to be said...you guys are just so amazing and so encouraging.
