"Ethan," I chocked out. "Wh-what are you doing here?"

"We need to talk," he breathed out. "Can I come in?" He asked and was already on the way in when I stepped in front of him.

"No," I simply said. I looked at the familiar face I had loved for the past five years. Things had changed. His brown eyes had dark under eyes circles that were more prominent and overall he just looked exhausted.

His gaze shifted to the glass of wine I was holding. "You with someone right now?"

I just nodded quietly and put down my glass. "Ethan, look this is-"

"Lia, just please listen to me," he begged.

"Listen to what? And how did you even know where I was?" I snapped.

"I asked your friends and relatives."

"Why would you- Ethan, the reason why I am here was to get my mind off you."

Ethan's brown eyes that was locked on mine shifted position to something behind me.

Sam stood there unaware of the situation. "Is everything okay?" He approached so close to me our arms brushed.

"Not really. Sam, this is Ethan. Ethan, this is Sam," I mumbled.

"Oh," was all that left Sam's mouth. He knew very well who Ethan was.

Ethan raised his brow. "You got yourself a British one, I see."

"Ethan, I don't have time for this. If you could please just g-"

"Lia, listen I need to talk to you," his gaze shifted between Sam and I. "In private."

"I don't want to."

"Just listen to what I have to say," he pleaded.

"She said she didn't want to listen to you," Sam stepped in and I felt his arm snake around my waist.

Ethan looked surprised at Sam. "Why are you involved in this?"

"I care about Lia and she said that she didn't want to listen to you. I think you should respect that," he said. I looked up at him, his hard gaze did not shift once from Ethan.

"Look, Lia. I don't really care if you brought some British Prince Charming to keep yourself away from me. I am not going to give up unless we have talked to each other," Ethan said and I felt my heartbeat raise as I didn't know what to do.

Both Ethan and Sam looked at me for answers and I felt a lump form in my throat and tears welling up in my eyes. I was pretty sure the wine was some of the blame for it.

"Okay, I finally spoke up. "Ethan, you get five minutes. Only five."

Sam looked at me with worried eyes. He didn't say a word, but if he was I knew he'd be asking if I was okay.

Ethan followed me up to my bedroom and I quietly closed the door. My arms were crossed over my chest and my heart was beating fast in my rib cage. I didn't say a word, my eyes never left his as I waited for him to speak up.

"I miss you, Lia," he whispered.

I remained silent, looking away from him to stop the tears that had welled in my eyes to not fall down my cheek. I was looking at a guy I had loved for half a decade, but now all I saw was hurt and embarrassment.

"I was so stupid to ever let you go. My life is not the same without you," his voice cracked and I almost felt guilty for leaving him until I remembered what he had done.

"That doesn't justify what you have done," I said.

"I know what I have done and I have regretted it everyday you were away from me. These past months have been hell."

"These past months have been hell?" I asked, my voice slightly angered. "How do you think these months have been for me? Because I know for sure that life hadn't been all flowers and rainbows these past months."

"But Lia-"

"Don't you but Lia me. These past months have been the hardest months of my life. I spent countless nights wondering what I did wrong in the relationship for you to get in bed with another woman. Blaming myself for what you did. I cried so much, Ethan. I couldn't even show up to work, which was apparently your reason for doing what you did."

"Lia, you were the best thing that has ever happened to me. You were away for the most times," he said and I felt my blood boil.

"Why does it sound like you are putting the blame on me?" I screamed. "I studied for years to get where I am now. You knew that I loved my job. But that did not give you a reason to go sleep with some other woman just because I was away most of the times."

Ethan didn't answer right away as it looked like he was thinking of an answer.

"You disgust me," I muttered under my breath and left the bedroom.

I felt his strong arm grasp onto mine, pulling me back.

"Let me go!" I shouted back and I saw Sam running towards us.

"Lia listen!" His said louder and his hand was still around my arm.

"Let her go!" This time Sam pushed Ethan away with such force that he was slammed into the wall.

"What the fuck was the for?" Ethan shouted and pushed Sam as well for payback.

Before Sam had the opportunity to hit another one, I placed myself between them. "Stop it!" I yelled and tears had already run down my cheeks.

"Lia, we were supposed to get married in a month," he spoke up and Sam looked at him with disgust.

"Then why did you cheat on her?" Sam asked cockily.

"Sam, stop it," I cried through the tears.

Ethan's hard gaze was so scary I was afraid what he was going to do with Sam. "What is it with you British people always thinking they are much better than everybody just because of their fancy accent." Ethan was playing with Sam and it was a bad move since he had alcohol running in his bloodstream.

Sam stepped so close to Ethan, my heart skipped a beat. "I may come off arrogant because of my accent, but I know that would never cheat on my fiancé because I am not a fucking dick like you."

I got in the middle again before Ethan got to punch Sam. "Stop! Both of you!" I exhaled a long breath and wiped away a few more tears. "Sam, I think you should leave."

His expression softened and he turned to me. "Lia-"

"I just need a break. Please leave," I sobbed, avoiding his gaze because I knew if I stared to those ocean eyes I would give in.

Sam left as I quietly sobbed. When the door closed, I turned to Ethan who was just about to speak up, but I beat him to it. "And you," I almost growled out of anger. "I never want to see your face ever again. We loved each other for five years, at least I did and you decided to ruin that when you cheated on me multiple times over a longer period. To think that I could be spending my summer, trying on wedding dresses, planning every last detail."

Ethan remained quiet and I continued.

"Instead I went to Rhode Island, rented a beach house and met this incredible guy who stood up for me even though we have only known each other for a few weeks. I don't want to lose that, so I want you to leave for good, find somebody else and forget about me because that is what is what I am going to do."

Eventually he left and I found myself on the couch crying silently, lost in the am, drinking the rest of the wine bottle, only hoping that I could recover from this night.
