“Amy? Are you awake?” shouted George, tears pouring down his face as he stared at Amy’s battered body lying lifeless in the sanitary hospital bed. “Please wake up?” he shouted again this time more angrily, now forcefully rattling Amy’s body. A doctor, who had overheard the shouting, ran into the room, pulling George from Amy’s body with all his strength.

“Calm down!” shouted the doctor, harshly preventing George from returning to Amy’s fragile body, pinning him to the chair. But George wasn’t showing any sign of ease so the doctor pressed a red button and before you knew it two more doctors had entered the room, helping to calm George.

After several minutes they had reassured George that Amy would be fine and gradually got him to a more stable sign before releasing him of their sturdy grasp. “She has had a very hard hit to the chest, so has been deprived of Oxygen but she will eventually come around, it is just a matter of waiting now because she is stable”.

As a result of being updated on Amy’s stability, George took in a large sign of relief, “She was going to be okay” he thought.

“Maybe you should go and get some air?” enquired the doctor. George nodded and without mentioning a word walked painfully to the entrance. He was still getting over the hangover from the night before and all that shouting had made him feel nauseous. As he opened the entrance door the cold, fresh air that gushed into the room, felt like a whack in the face. He took in a large gasp of air and breathed out slowly and heavily in attempt to prevent himself from throwing up. He watched each patient closely as they walked out of the hospital, taking note of whether they were happy or not, in attempt to ease himself of his pain and guilt that was tearing him up from the inside, out. He couldn’t help but think that Amy may not make it and this would determine how his future played out. George was building up to a frenzy, as all the different scenarios ran around in his mind, merging together, ‘It was a hard hit, but is it hard enough to kill? It could be’ he thought. Luckily just before the anger propelled out of him forming a full blown violent attack a doctor called him over, saying he needed some answers as to how this attack came about, for the doctor’s reports on the casualty.

He was guided into a small room, one that could resemble a question room in a police station. A room he knew too well. It was a cramped room with a small wooden table placed in the centre with a chair on either side. On the north facing wall was a large window, where patients and other hospital staff could look upon the action within. The memories this room brought back tugged at his body, sending him into a panic attack. His chest rattled and his hands shook as his unsteady heavy breathing too place. He had to try very hard to prevent any unnecessary anger from flowing out. ‘They don’t know anything other than the evidence shown on Amy’s body, they won’t know my past”, “It isn’t a police station it’s a hospital” he kept telling himself. Eventually his breathing steadied just in time for a doctor to come in, carrying a brown folder overflowing with documents. As he began to talk, in a deep voice, every word sent a shot of pain ripping through his mind. It felt like he was being shot at repeatedly with a machine gun.

After about five minutes of enduring this pain, the room fell silent. He could think! It was such a nice feeling sending ripples of joy through his body. But then he noticed that the doctor was staring at him, was he waiting for a response? George was too distracted by the continuous pain ripping through him before that he was unable to understand or remember what he had just requested.

“So…is there any other people that we could call to inform them that Amy’s is in the hospital? Surely there is a parent or guardian, or even a friend?” repeated the doctor, noticing that George did seem very distracted. It seemed slightly suspicious to him, almost like he is attempting to cover up the truth.

George had to think about this. Should he cover up the truth and tell him that there wasn’t anyone else other than himself, in order to prevent him from getting into trouble, or should he tell him about her friends? If her friends found out then he was definitely going to be sent to the police again, since they did know about the past occurrences. But if he lied there was the risk someone finding out and the consequences would be worse. Was that a risk he was willing to take? What should he do? He noticed that the doctor looked very suspicious of him and his stall in his response. He had to just say something and then go along with it. So before he was able think about the aftermath he was saying, “No…there isn’t, I am the only one. The boyfriend” At least for now, he thought. He couldn’t believe he had said that! Surely once Amy has awoken and was completely stable she would inform them of the truth and the doctors would most definitely send him to the police. There were so many better responses and he had to pick that one! The doctor frowned as he noted his response down in the file. “He has written it down! They now have evidence to place against me in court!” he thought, he could feel another panic attack coming on but he had to fight with his own body to maintain a stable persona, in order to cover up his true feelings inside. The doctors cannot know any more than they already do. Another false move and he was most definitely in trouble, at least he can work with this.
