"Are you excited? It's your first day of high school!" my mother screamed. I couldn't help but feel an unpleasant movement in my stomach. The thought of starting at a new school and being at the bottom of the social food chain made my skin crawl.
I stared at my mother with a blank look on my face. "Yeah Mom, I'm ecstatic," in a monotone voice. I continued to apply foundation on my face. I wanted to look stunning on my first day, I mean the first day is similar to a fashion show; you must look fierce and I wasn't going to be that girl that looked like a bum.
I glanced down on my phone and checked for the time and saw that I was running ten minutes behind schedule. I quickly fished my makeup, applied lotion on my body, grabbed my backpack and I was out the door in no time.
As my mom drove like a maniac to my bus stop, I stared out the window. It felt like I was seeing the world in a whole new set of eyes. I, Delilah Lee, am starting my first year of high school. I'm no longer a child. I will be experiencing what people say is the worst four years of their lives. Not to mention I'm attending a school that either everyone hates or loves: Central Ridge High School. One of the best schools regarding to their Drama department and mostly the main reason why I'm attending their in the first place.
My mom arrived at my bus stop and in a split second my bus arrived. I saw one of my best friends, Riley hop off her car and board the bus. We both greeted each other with a scream. I looked around the bus and saw two other boys looking at me and one looking at the window consumed with the music he was listening to.
I looked at Riley and made a motion with my eyes to look at the boys. She laughed and said "Can you guys stop staring at my friend?" Once she said that the boys quickly turned their heads and I think I saw one of them blushing. Riley and I began to talk about our summer and how we felt about this school year. Whenever I made a joke about something, I heard the two boys laughing with Riley & I and make side comments to each other.
Finally one of the boys that wasn't shy enough introduce themselves.
"Hi! I'm Victor but you can call me Vic and this is Jake," he said pointing to the other boy. "We are sorry for staring at you. We've haven't had fresh meat on the bus in a long time.""Yeah it's kinda like you're an alien or something," agreed Jake.
"I totally understand. I'm Delilah."
"Hmm... Delilah. What a pretty name for a pretty girl," said Vic with a smile on his face.
"Hahaha thank you," I replied awkwardly. I looked at Riley with a surprise look, she gave me a smirk that gave me an idea what her mind was thinking. I observed Vic & Jake the whole bus ride to figure out how they interact with each other and what they were really like. They had an interesting friendship. It was like watching Kevin Hart and Chris Rock having a conversation with each other, very entertaining. I was secretly hoping that they were in some of my classes.
We arrived at school and was bombarded by teenagers pushing and shoving to look on the bulletin board near the main office to see their first period class. I grabbed Riley's hand just in case we lost each other in the crowd. I took a deep breath and said to myself, your high school experience starts now.
