The sound of my Mother's horrifying and muffled scream made Justin & I pull apart. Shock was written all over Justin's face. Fear on mine; fear that Lucas is dangerous like I thought and did something horrible to my Mom. I moved away from Justin, grabbed my baseball bat just for situations like these, and ran out the door to the living room in no time. Just as I was ready to swing and let Lucas have it, I smelled smoke in the air. Something is on fire. I went deeper into the living room to see glass from the window shattered on the floor and the red vibrant curtain that my Mom loved so much go into flames. I saw Lucas run to the kitchen a bottle of alcohol with a white fabric stuffed inside but burning with flames. Didn't he know that was dangerous to touch? How hot that is? I was baffled of what was going on right in front of me. I saw my Mother grabbed the fire extinguisher and hosed down the blazing curtain. There was no sense of emotion on her face. She didn't seem like she was effected with this tragedy like I thought she would be. Once everything and everyone seemed to be calmed down I finally asked,
"What happened?"
I felt Justin's warmth and strength behind me. I felt him grab my hand and interlocked our fingers. I knew it was him with the way my heart raced whenever I felt him near. I saw my Mom give our gesture a dirty look. Not aimed at me, but to Justin. Seems like he's not becoming everyone's favorite person lately.
"Someone tried to put your house on fire. Thank God Eve still remembers on how to react quickly or else this pretty home would turn into ashes," he replied giving full eye contact to my Mom with a smirk on his face.
"Do you know who did it," I questioned.
That was when everyone grew silent. No words were exchanged. It's like they all knew who, but wouldn't confess it. All three of them. I turned to see Justin give Lucas a questioning gaze and Lucas returning a confirming one. How does Justin know what is going on?
"No honey we don't know," my Mother responded sweetly. I can tell she was lying to me. Her left eye always twitched when she wasn't being truthful. I felt a little jab in my heart to know that my Mother is keeping secrets from me.
"So are we going to call the police," I questioned once more with a deep breath.
It grew silent again. I kept my gaze on my Mother. Maybe her facial expression was the answer that I only needed. It wasn't till then that I heard movement coming from Lucas that made my Mom removed her gaze from mine.
"I think it's time we should go. It was nice seeing you again Eve. Nice meeting you Delilah. Justin let's go," Lucas commanded.
I heard him walk out the door and slam the car door shut, indicating that he was waiting for Justin.
I turned around and saw Justin looking at me fiercely. He leaned down and gave me a soft light kiss on my lips. It made my smile grow wide. It felt good knowing that he is finally mine.
"Is it okay if I call you later sweetheart," he asked softly.
I replied with a nod. I grew nervous, what can we possibly talk about on the phone? Justin walked out the door. I already felt a sense of loss when he left from my arms. I started to become sad but stopped myself when knowing I'll see him at school tomorrow. I turned around to face my Mom but only to find to see her not there. Where did she go? I already had enough for one night and badgering my Mother for answers wouldn't make it better. I went back to my room.
I was welcomed with the sound of my phone chiming frequently, letting me know that someone on the instant message app was trying to reach me. I discovered that it was the girls once again chatting away. Denise was talking about what happened today at school and quite frankly it was becoming irritating.
Denise: They gave me 10 days of suspension
Riley: WOW! Awee I'm gonna miss you :-(
Lexi: Yeah same, but you kinda had to see it coming though
Denise: What do you mean?
Lexi: You did fight someone who didn't really fight you back, her face is badly bruised, and she was bleeding. I'm surprised you didn't get expelled!
Denise: Woah! Whose side are you on? That girl deserved it!
Me: For what?
Denise: She was talking shit behind my back. She was a friend to me!
Me: Andd?! That's half the people on this planet. Get used to it
Denise: So you think I'm wrong for fighting her?
Me: I think you should've kept it to an argument. Getting your hands involved wasn't necessary, now that I know the full story
Denise: You know what Delilah? Nobody asked you. You didn't have my back anyway. You were the first one to protect that girl. You didn't even try to hear my side of the story. Don't be a prejudice.
Riley: Guys stop fighting. It's not worth it
Lexi: Just let them get it out Riley
Denise: If you was a real friend then you wouldn't be acting like this! You would ask me if I was okay or how I'm feeling. You wouldn't be so judgmental! Maybe you're not fit to be my friend anyway
Me: How can I when you're deadass wrong and you know it? That girl would've DIED if I didn't step in! So please humor me; what other emotions are you feeling except for rage, anger, jealousy? Don't make this all about you now and if you don't want to be my friend, then there goes the door. Walk right out of it!
I removed myself from the chat. I didn't want to hear anymore of her bullshit and lies. I could care less what she had to say. If it takes a situation so petty for her to throw our friendship all away then she wasn't meant to be my friend in the first place. I know there are times in life that people start to change, but I didn't think one of best friends would start to change for the worst right before my eyes. I didn't want to be bothered for the rest of the night so I turned off my phone, did my homework, took a shower, and went to sleep.
