We walked into the portable that had the acronym I.S. on the door. The teacher that was there made us fill paperwork out with our information and told us that this will be in our record. Once the teacher said that, it made me feel sick. I hope my mom doesn't find out.
I scanned my eyes across the room hoping to see Justin, only to come up with a negative result. He's not here. I decided to let it go. Maybe I'll see him before the school ends or maybe next period. I walked my way to the back of the room and found a desk that was empty. However, the next empty desk was way across the other side of the room. I looked at Corey who seemed a bit disappointed. I sat down and took out a piece of paper and pen hoping that drawing something would pass the time even though drawing was never my strong suit.
I couldn't get the words of what Corey said out of my mind. What happened to Justin's sister and mother? Who are they? Are they dead? So many questions was flowing though my mind that I couldn't contain. I wanted to find out this mystery. Maybe it will point me in the right direction of what is going on between my Mom, Lucas, and Justin. I felt a gaze towards me and turned around and saw it was Corey looking right at me. Pulling me right to him with just one look.
It was easy talking to Corey. It felt like I could tell him anything and he wouldn't judge or laugh at me. My heart yearned for him when he talked about his Dad and wished Lucas was his father. It gave Corey and I something in common. We both don't know our fathers. I never met mine before. My Mom said he's in prison and won't be getting out any time soon. She didn't elaborate on his crime and I didn't ask. Nor of his sentence. I figured he doesn't care about us since we've never gotten a letter or a call from him. He wasn't even there when I was born according to my Mom. I wish I knew what he looked like so I can make sure I don't look like him, but Mom promised me that I didn't so I have nothing to worry about.
I turned my gaze away from Corey and looked around the room to see who else is in here that I know. Only to fall short and see Michael sitting right next to me. I remember that Riley wanted me to ask Michael about her, but never fulfilled that promise until now. I wasn't sure what Riley really wanted me to say or do so I just decided to go with the flow.
"Michael! I didn't know you were in here," I gasped.
He was consumed with being on his phone. He finally turned to his left and saw me sitting right next to him.
"Hey Delilah what's up," he questioned.
"Oh nothing. Just the usual."
"That's good. That's good. So umm how's Riley," he questioned.
I was taken back by surprised. I didn't expect for Michael to bring up Riley. I thought I had to break the ice... Guess not.
"She's good I guess. She told me she saw you the other day," Oops maybe I said the wrong thing.
"Yeah I saw her too. I wanted to say hi, but you know how that goes."
"You should of! One of you guys need to stop being so shy and talk to each other or else one of y'all is going to move on and hurt the other," I replied.
"Yeah maybe you're right. I just never know what to say to her."
"How about saying hi," I questioned with a hint of sarcasm.
Before I could get a response from him, the bell runged for second period and everyone from the room quickly jumped from there seats. I glanced around the room hoping to find Corey; only to realized that he was gone.
