I couldn't believe my eyes. What is going on with me? I'm totally screwed. I stared down at my report card mirroring what I've never received in my years of going to school; straight C's. This is so not like me. I should've stayed on top of things. I should've monitor my grades, but no. I was to busy going all crazy over Justin who is turning out to be an ass. I haven't seen him since he stormed out of the hallway this morning and his car wasn't in the student parking lot so I was forced to take the school bus this afternoon.
"What does your report card look like," questioned a frantic Riley.
I quickly folded my report card and slide it into my back pocket, becoming extremely embarrassed to show anyone my grades.
"Ooh that bad, huh? Don't worry girl, mine is worse," she said siencerly.
Our bus finally came and we hopped on. We sat on our usual seat and for some reason Riley couldn't stop shaking. It was like she was on a sugar rush. For someone who just received bad grades... she is awfully happy. It seemed like it was just us girls on the bus today. The bus driver waited ten minutes for the boys, but they were becoming no shows.
"What if one of them came out just as soon as we were leaving," I questioned with a laugh.
The bus driver and the bus attendant were playing off scenarios of what could happen and there reasoning of staying so long. Minutes passed and the obnoxious shaking from Riley was becoming annoying so I had to ask what was up with her.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm so happy you asked, I have to tell you something," she said with a smile so bright.
I stayed silent, showing her that I was listening and waiting for her to say what she has to say.
"So you know how I have Gym 4th period, right? Well I'm outside getting my participation points by walking the football field with Lexi and so as I'm walking I noticed and felt someone behind me. I turned my head and saw it was Michael and his friend Jimmy. So Jimmy grabs Lexi by the hand walks her in the opposite direction of what we were walking in and says he needs to talk to her and leaves me alone with Michael. Keep in mind, Michael doesn't have my Gym class so he was totally skipping. It was silent and awkward in so many ways and you know the first thing he said to me was hi."
I couldn't help but to laugh hysterically towards the situation. I guess Michael really did take my advice literally.
"What's so funny," she questioned with confusion written all over her face.
"Oh nothing. Keep going with your story," I replied.
"Anyway, long story short he asked me out on a date and he wants to take me this Saturday."
"That's good! Did you say yes?"
"I told him I'll think about it," she replied shyly.
What is wrong with this girl? Why would she say that when knowing she wants to go? That's basically letting Michael know that she's semi interested. Poor Michael.
"You're an idiot," was all I could to say to Riley.
Before she could come up with a reason to defend her point of view, the bus driver interrupted our conversation letting us know that we have reached our bus stop. I heard Riley demand me to I.M. her later to continue the conversation of her idiotic actions. I noticed that my mom's car wasn't there once I boarded off of the bus. I groaned to myself knowing that I have to walk home.
Fifteen minutes later and I've finally reached home with sweat pouring down my face and a back that was aching to be rubbed. I was taken back when I saw moving trucks in my driveway. When did we agree to move?
I quickly ran to the front door and opened it and saw the house filled with brown boxes all over the floor. I was stunned. I followed the sound of boxes being taped that lead me to the living room. I saw my mother, Lucas, and Justin all putting the items that we own covered in newspapers and placing them in the boxes. I didn't make a sound and they didn't notice I was there. It seemed like they were never going to stop. They were in a hurry. For what?
I quickly dropped my backpack and keys on the floor, that made them stop of what they were doing. Signs of fear and regret was being shown on there faces. Betrayal on mine. I couldn't wrap my head around of what is going on. A lot of lies and secrets have been floating around lately and they are becoming endless. It seemed like my mother didn't care to give me an explanation, only direction.
"Go grab a box and pack all of your things in your room Delilah."
"Why," I questioned.
"Because we are moving," she replied nonchalantly.
It wasn't the answer that I was looking for so I asked again.
"Why?"
"Because we are not safe here," she said.
I couldn't stand these short answers. I wanted a thorough explanation and I couldn't take it anymore.
"WHY," I screamed with rage and sadness that I had built up inside me.
"Because your father is being released from jail and we need to leave NOW," she yelled back with clenched teeth.
