I sat up straight in bed, sweating profusely, and breathing hard. My body couldn't even comprehend the fact that I had just woken up, I felt like I wasn't sleeping at all and spent the night chugging energy drinks. My heart dropped when I noticed Jack and Chica weren't in bed with me, but I tried to settle down a bit once I heard something moving around in the kitchen. I sighed and rolled out of bed, quickly going through the cabin until I saw Jack, his back facing me, and Chica laying in the living room. I went behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, kissing his cheek.
"Good morning, sweetheart," I murmured and heard him giggling, turning to face me, showing he had a bag of marshmallows in his hands. He went to kiss me and my hands found their way to his cheeks, holding his lips against mine. We pulled away, each having a grin on our faces - the nightmare from last night completely forgotten.
"Good morning," He hummed happily and I let him continue making his usual s'mores, the coffee maker going and filling the air with the smooth scent of it brewing, while the fireplace flickered in the living room - it was pretty chilly outside recently. I've never felt more relaxed than on days like this, where it was warm inside and I could spend all day cuddling with Jack. "I'm in the autumn mood. I'm ready for pumpkin spiced everything and pretty leaves."
"Who needs pretty leaves when I have you, beautiful?" I smirked smoothly and he playfully smacked my arm, blushing. He was always easily affected by compliments. "Well, we have videos made for at least a week. We could either make more or do something today."
"Do you think you're ready?" He asked with a worried expression crossing his face. I haven't gone out in public with Jack since I was put on my medication. My therapist, still being Miles Upshur, kept pressing for me to step outside my comfort zone and test the pills and if they were truly working for me, but he didn't know I had killed people in the past and it's not worth the risk. The remembrance of the murders reminded me of Eli and my nightmare all over again and I shivered lightly.
"I'm ready," I smiled, though I wasn't actually sure, but I would do anything to make Jack happy - even if it was risky. Luckily, Jack was still gullible and never thought twice when I lied to him. I didn't do it often, I only ever would lie to him to protect him. "What should we do?"
"Hmm... We could go pick apples in an orchard, go get some decorations for fall, or just go for a walk in the woods - we don't have to go out in public, I like it when it's just us," He added, to make sure I didn't think that he was doubting me. I knew deep down he was, but didn't want to cause any drama. I still preferred it being just Jack, Chica, and I.
"Maybe a walk would be fun, but you better layer up," I said firmly, knowing he gets cold pretty easily. He smiled and nodded. "Should we take Chica?"
"Of course! Go get ready! I have to eat my s'more," He pushed with a grin and I laughed, heading for the bathroom. I turned on the shower and sighed deeply, the hot water already steaming up the room.
I couldn't forget about that nightmare no matter how hard I tried. Jack's dead body was imprinted in my mind and chilled me to the bone. The way I tried to wake him up, though knowing he was already dead, struck home as I know deep down I'd truly do that if that were to ever happen, but it wouldn't. I would rather die a thousand times than to have that nightmare come to life.
Eli was the thing confusing me the most. I don't understand why my mind would come up with something so terrible and strange. I hadn't really thought of Jack's ex boyfriend in a while, only remembering the fact that he hit him and it lead up to Jack occasionally flinching when I raised my hand - not even thinking that it would affect him like that. I hated that man more than I've despised anyone in the entirety of the human race. He hurt the person I love most and caused him to be afraid of me.
Stepping out after the fairly short shower, the entire bathroom was filled with thick steam. I waved in front of my face to clear the air slightly and nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw the mirror, which had been written on with the foggy glass.
'I'm watching,' It read and I quickly used my hand to rub the message away, trembling slightly. Who the hell - no - What the hell did this? I would've heard the door opening if Jack decided to pull a little prank - I knew he was mostly excited for Halloween this fall and would try to scare me, but he didn't do this and there was nobody other than him and I in the cabin. I wrapped a towel around my middle, ignoring my wet hair, and stepping out of the bathroom.
"Hey, sweetheart?" I called, stepping into the living room, where Jack was sitting by Chica in front of the fireplace, his cheeks stuffed with a s'more. I couldn't help but grin and chuckle at how adorable he looked, the bathroom incident nearly forgotten.
"...Mmm?" He hummed, chewing. I went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass.
"Did you go into the bathroom while I was showering?" I asked, coming back with the cup filled with milk and handing it to him. He smiled at me and drank some of it, clearing his throat.
"Nope, why do you ask?" He smiled cutely and I kissed his lips quickly, feeling crumbs on my face, but not caring. He blushed.
"No reason - thought I felt a breeze," I made up a quick excuse and he quickly nodded, turning his attention back to the flickering flames, a hand petting Chica, who rolled over onto her back so he could pet her belly. I turned away from them and headed to our room, wondering what the hell was going on.
