"Hey, dick with ears, looking for me?" I called and Dark turned, smirking at me. I can't lie, I'm about to shit my pants, I'm terrified, but I press forward. I can't let him get to Jack, I won't let him take him or hurt him. I have to do this, even if it scares me.
"Oh, my original host! I forgot you existed," Dark chuckled and I rolled my eyes. "I don't know about you, but I surprisingly like this Eli kid."
"Kid? He's ten years older than Jack!" I reminded him.
"When you've been around for so many years, even sweet, old ladies seem just like children to you," He grinned and I bit my lower lip. "You're like an infant, but you pretend to be an adult. On the inside, I can just feel you screaming and crying, pleading for your mother to save you."
"You're right about one thing," I took a step closer to him. "I am a child at heart."
"I think an idiot could see that," Dark chuckled.
"And I think you're an idiot and that's why you felt the urge to point that out," I smirked and he glared at me, stepping closer to me.
"Where's the toy?" He asked and I shook my head.
"If you want him, you'll have to go through me first," I looked him dead in the eyes to show how serious I was being.
"Why don't you give me a challenge?" He laughed and I rolled my eyes, eyeing a baseball bat that was resting against a wall. I figured Jack took it out of the shed to feel more protected, as we didn't have any weapons other than kitchen knives, but that seemed more aggressive to have around. I backed myself towards it grabbed it firmly, ready to smack him with it like I've wanted to since he came to life. "A baseball bat? You're pathetic."
"Yeah because fighting against you - an almost demonic entity - is fair," I shook my head and he smirked.
"I wouldn't say almost. I'd say I'm already there. Look what I can do," He grinned viciously and with one fluid motion of his arms, the space around him was in flames, smoke filling the room quickly. I backed away from the flames and tried to hold my breath, not wanting to breath it in and suffocate.
"Fucking asshole!" I shouted and retreated towards the bathroom to get Jack out of the now-burning cabin, when something grabbed my wrist and yanked me back, slamming me into the wall of the hallway outside of the bathroom. The baseball bat fell out of my grasp and rolled towards the closed bathroom door. I gasped in pain and tried to tear my wrist away from Dark, who had it in a death grip.
"Weak humans," Dark spat, saliva hitting my face and burning my cheek as it landed. I winced, but didn't let myself cave into the slight pain, it could be worse. "You're all so pathetic with your stupid feelings. What ever happened to every man for himself?"
"That man found another man that he'd rather see live than himself," I said, addressing to the way I feel about my fiancé. Oh, I can't even describe how great it feels to be able to say that.
"Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic! People like you are what releases things like me," He grabbed my other wrist, pinning them both to the wall tightly. "Do you know what I want to do to you?"
"You should buy me dinner before enticing ideas like that," I smirked, not even caring about what he's going to do to me. As long as I can stall long enough for Ida to get here, Jack will be okay. That's all I need.
"Fuck you."
"Dinner," I repeated in a sing-song tone and he let go of my wrists, wrapping his hands around my neck. He squeezed and I clenched my eyes shut, opening my mouth, trying to take in any air I possibly could.
"That's it, Mark. Just close your eyes and accept Death - he's a good guy, met him a few times," Dark cooed and I opened my eyes again, not willing to let him win. Suddenly, he was crumpling to the floor, yelping in pain. He let me go and I sucked in as much air as my lungs would allow. As he collapsed, I saw Jack standing behind him, baseball bat in hand. He went to me, stepping over Dark, hugging me tightly. I wrapped my arms around him, stunned he'd make such a bold move. Perhaps I just never gave him enough credit, but I'm amazed at how strong and confident he actually is.
"Shit, I didn't hit a home-run," Jack giggled and I laughed a bit, letting him go, eyeing Dark, who started to pick himself up. I pushed Jack away from us.
"That counted as a home-run, so get going or I won't marry you because we'll be dead!" I threatened and he didn't need to be told twice. He bolted towards the door, Chica following him and barking like mad. I was about to follow him, when Dark grabbed my wrist and yanked me towards him again. "Motherfucker!"
"Sorry, I haven't met your mom, so I couldn't have fucked her. Is she hot?" He smirked and I kicked him in the groin, making him let me go briefly, but he quickly regained his strength and snagged hold of my upper arm, getting a better grip on me than he had before. "Not so fast, Markimoo."
"Fuck off!" I shouted at him, wanting to follow Jack out of the cabin, which was still burning around us.
"Can't, we're going fishing," He smirked and pushed me towards a group of flames before I could even think about what he said.
"Mark!" Jack yelled and ran back into the cabin, pulling me away from the flames before I could topple in. He hugged me for a brief moment, before being torn away, pulled into Dark's arms. I watched in horror as the flames created a theatrical tone behind the demon holding my fiancé.
"Hook, line, and sinker."
