song I recommend for this chapter: Three Empty Words by Shawn Mendes
Violet:
I sit in my cold flat for the rest of the night, ignoring all my messages and calls and everything. I sit in silence. The sounds of cars passing and drunk people laughing audible from where I sit, in my bedroom.
A knock on the door makes my spine tingle, I move my body slightly so I can see the door from my seat. I slowly get up and walk to it, my feet dragging along the wood floor. I reach the door and timidly open it, to reveal flustered Harry.
"Violet." He breathes out, pulling me in to his body and hugging me.
I feel my words hitch in my throat and tears run down my cheeks as he pulls me closer.
"C'mon, let's go in." He mumbles in to my hair.
I pull away and close the door, after he walks in.
"Do you still love him?" Harry asks, as he sits opposite me on my sofa.
I nod.
"Did you meet anyone in New York?" He questions and I think about it.
"I met someone at the airport but I don't know-I don't know how I feel about anything right now." I answer.
He sighs, "Violet, you know he just wanted to forget you, right? He just wanted to be with someone for that one night and he regrets it, he's literally sitting in his room right now crying and ignoring all of the boys."
"I just, I can't do that to him, y'know? I can't just keep showing up then leaving then coming back just when he's about to move on, I'm not mad that he got with another girl I'm just mad at myself for still loving him." I shakily breathe out, tears staining my pale cheeks.
"Then you can't keep coming back." Harry mumbles.
I look to him, "what?"
"If you want him to move on and to live his own life then you can't keep coming back to him, Vi." He looks me in the eye.
I nod, "maybe you're right."
Simon:
It's been a week since Violet left, it's the twenty fourth and I'm driving back from my parents house. I decide against staying for Christmas, despite their complaints. I find myself lying in bed for the whole day, remembering how a year ago, Violet was a simple, brown-haired girl with glasses who was always drawing. Now she's a jet-setter with purple hair and no time for anything anymore.
I wake up at quarter to twelve, only fifteen minutes until Christmas. My phone suddenly starts going off as the time reaches five minutes until Christmas. I check it and see it's a reminder.
'walk through the city with Violet on Christmas day.'
I promised her. And I will keep that promise.
I drive to Violet's flat and make my way up the mountain of stairs before reaching her door, I gently knock on it and wait less than ten seconds before she opens it.
"Si." She breathes out, the nickname making me smile lightly.
"Vi." I mumble.
"What are you doing here?" She questions, looking at her feet.
"I promised you." I simply say.
"What?" She looks at me this time, her glasses sliding down her nose slightly.
