Britt's Point Of View

I hung up the phone and thought about who could possibly be coming. I had royally fucked up everyone's lives. I had fucked up my life, Eric and Lynette's lives and Dave's. We both eventually got remarried and I had another kid while he had three, all girls. I had kept track of his career over the years mainly because of Lynette and Eric. I felt bad for leaving him the way I did. I got up off the couch and went to the basement. I decided to make up the bedroom for Abby and the couch down there the male friend of hers who would be here in four hours. Once I was finished making the bed in the bedroom, I headed to the couch and stopped. I turned around and looked at the box of tapes Eric and Lynette watched over and over as kids. I picked out a random one and put it in the vcr and sat down on the floor. The screen flicked on and there I was.

"Come to mommy Eric. You're doing so good," I said as Eric walked towards me.

"My boy can walk," Dave said as Eric got within my reach. I picked him up, stood up and kissed his cheek three times.

"Happy first birthday and first steps my sweet angel," I said as Eric pointed at Dave and the camera.

"Dave give me the camera and get Eric to walk from Britt to you," Krist said from behind Dave. The camera jumbled as it went from Dave to krist and when it refocused I was sitting on the floor with Eric in my lap. Dave walked over to the couch and kneeled down. I stood Eric u and held him at the waist whiel I got to my knees.

"Go to daddy. Daddy wants to give you a hug," I said to Eric. He took a few steps where I could still hold him before I let go and lwatched walk towards Dave. I stood up and just watched. Dave picked Eric up and kissed him on the cheek. The look on my face was the one I knew as my heart melting face.

"I'll be right back," I said and I disappeared. Dave looked at the camera confused.

"Don't look at me man. I know nothing," Krist replied. Shortly after I returned dragging a box.

"What did mommy get you?" Dave asked as he put Eric down in front of the box and he looked at me. I knew he was raising his eyebrow at me but you couldn't see his face.

"It's a surprise for both of you," I said as Dave kneeled down. He and Eric started tearing the wrapping paper away. I snapped a picture of them when Dave saw what it was. Eric's first drum set.

"When did you get this?" Dave asked as he stood up.

"Last week. I couldn't help myself," I replied and the doorbell rang.

"You are amazing," Dave said and kissed me as Kurt, Courtney and Frances came into the house behind us.

I stopped the video and sat there crying. I had made the one of the two worst mistakes in my life the day I left him. He had just started a new band and was touring alot. I should have been use to him touring but after spending almost a complete year together with the kids, it was harder to deal with Eric. He just wanted to see daddy and the tv wasn't good enough. I should have stayed in Seattle instead of moving away so he couldn't find me. I kept my kids from their dad. I knew they both loved me but I also knew they hated me for never letting Dave know where we were. I also never let them reach out to him when they wanted to. Once I met Jake and got married, I told Krist he could show Dave pictures and stuff but he was never allowed to tell him where we were.

I got up off the floor after I put the video back on and I moved a box out from the corner. I opened it as the rest of Eric's first birthday played and started taking everything out and looking at it. I was going through a photo album when Lynette came downstairs.

"Mom what are you doing?" she asked as she sat down beside me. I was looking at a picture of Dave and I. I was on his back and we were smiling like idiots. It was when they were recording Nevermind.

"Just going through the D box," I replied as I turned the page. The picture me in my prom dress with Krist and Kurt was there.

"I like that picture of you guys. I wish I could have known Uncle Kurt," Lynette said. I could smell alcohol and knew she had just gotten home from the bar.

"Go to bed. I gotta wait up for one of Abby's friends. He's gonna be here in a couple of hours," I said. I didn't talk about Kurt. I had become friends with Courtney again over the years and had gotten close to Frances too. When Wendy had gotten custody of Frances, I would bring the kids over to play with ehr when I visited Mark, Krist, Kim, Sadie and Hunter. I always stayed with Krist but when I went to see Kim she was always at Wendy's.

"Ok mom. I love you," she said and kissed me on the forehead.

"Love you too sweetie," I replied and went back to what I was doing. I lost track of time listening to all of the old cassettes Dave had given me that where the starting point of the Foo Fighters. Everytime Big Me started, I got teary eyed. Dave and left the guitar I had gotten him for his birthday behind and I learned how to play that one song. It was about me and him. I cried everytime I heard or seen it play. The doorbell rang and I got up from the mess of memories on the floor and headed upstairs. I unlocked and opened the door and was in complete shock.

"Hey you," Dave said as I looked at him.

"I'm going to kill her," I said and walked away from the door as I pulled my phone out. I dialed Abby and she answered as Dave closed the front door.

"Don't be mad. Taylor and I are coming in two days. He was talking about you when I got to Taylor's. Boo he misses you and don't tell me you don't miss him," she said as I held the phone to my ear.

"You better be here in two days. Abby he's married. Why would you tell him" I asked.

"She just left him. Same reason as you. Just talk to him and listen to what he has to say please?" Abby asked. I rolled my eyes and heard a door open down the hall. I turned to look down the hall and saw Lynette just standing there looking back at me.

"Fine. See you in 2 days," I said and hung up. I turned around to look at Dave. I waved and said hey.

"You look good," Dave said as he looked me up and down.

"Thank you. So do you," I replied as I looked back over at Lynette. She was half way down the hall now. She knew that voice as she followed everything he did.

"Is your little one asleep?" Dave asked me and I looked back at him.

"He is. Lynette is home and up," I said. His eyes lit up when I said that.

"I want to see her," he said. I looked back at Lynette and she was still half way down the hallway. Dave walked ver to me and looked down the hall.

"Daddy?" Lynette said as her eyes got teary.

"Yes baby girl," Dave said and Lynette ran at him and almost knocked him over when she wrapped her arms around him. They hugged each other tightly and I started crying. I felt terrible for keeping them apart all these years.

"I gotta call Eric," Lynette said as they pulled apart. She ran to her room and Dave turned to me.

"Come here," he said and I listened. He wrapped his arms around me and I hugged him back tightly. "God I fucking missed you more than anything," he said and kissed the top of my head. I cried as he held me.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you where I went. I'm sorry I kept the kids from you. I should have called you years ago. I'm sorry I was a bitch," I said through the tears.

"We'll talk about everything in good time. I'm here now and I'm not fucking going anywhere anytime soon," he replied.
