9/11 was a terrible event. An event that can't be forgotten, an event that shocked the world and left us all wondering: Why? Why do people do this? Kill for the sake of killing? Spilling the blood of thousands of innocent people, for what? To show power? Because you can? Because it's not yours, so it doesn't matter if you break it? Does it bring you joy? Terrorists are awful people, who do awful things, and for what? The people on the plane, the people in the towers, the people on the near streets, all massacred. A great American tragedy happened that day. A tragedy that shows how cruel, how unforgiving the world is. To most people, September 11th is a day of mourning and sorrow, for all the lives lost during the attacks. A day of thanks, to those firefighters and police, and other emergency responders that saved so many lives in the rubble of the towers. That is true heroism, these are the people who hold this nation together, even during times like this. Thank you, to all of those people, thank you so much. This day, however, can also be marked as a day of new beginnings, new opportunities. A fresh pallet.
There was once a young child, who was playing with legos, and had just completed his newest and most proud creation. He had spent the last 3 hours working on his dream castle. It had 4 towers, a drawbridge, and a great, big square building in the center. He was so excited of his new creation, he forgot to put it away that night, and left it next to his bed, where he was last working on it. The next morning, as he jumped out of bed, he landed right on top of his creation, shattering, and ruining it. All of that work gone to waste. The child cried and cried and wouldn't stop crying. What he saw, was a ruined masterpiece. What he didn't see, was new opportunities. Because he ruined his first creation, he now has that same space to make something better. The destruction of the Twin Towers is just like this. The Towers are gone now, but the space is still there. And we realized that. We used the space from where something good used to be to make something better. This day, September 11, should be seen as a day of remembrance, memorial, and sorrow for the lives lost in this terrible, awful event, and a day of thanks to those who arrived at the scene to help us, and the brave people on the third plane who were able to steer it off course, showing true patriotism and heroism. But lets also mark it as a day of new beginnings and new opportunities. Let it inspire us to never give up hope, no matter how daunting the odds, how dark the times are. Let it teach us that
WE
CAN'T
EVER
GIVE
UP!
This day will never be forgotten, but when we do think about it remember this: We are America. What doesn't kill us will only make us stronger. No matter what is thrown our way, whatever might threaten us, we can take it.
WE
ARE
AMERICA
