At the Animal Shelter people were showing up more and more, it weakend my self confidence of volunteering.

Apparently only 4 people can volunteer… OUT OF THE 23!

I paced nervously back and forth as they called people in to see if they are good enough to volunteer, a lot of them weren't.

"Nervous?" A boy with blonde hair asked.

"You betcha" I said as I bounced on my heels.

"Chase, you?" He said holding out his hand.

I took his hand hesitantly "Nicole"

"Well I bet your going to be picked"

"what makes you say that?"

"I happen to be, ahem the Owners son" he said while brushing his shirt with his hand.

I laughed "oh really?"

"yes and now you are one of the many volunteers"

"I don't have to audition?" I questioned.

"No we only do that to let time pass by"

I smile at his friendliness, I have been missing a friend.

"Thanks"

"no prob, hey I think I found you a perfect match"

I started blushing "what?"

"follow me" He tugged on my arm pulling me down a hallway full of … animals.

"I think Lucy is a keeper for you"

I look down at Lucky, a Lab + Golden retrevier mix.

"Aw isn't he the cutest thing"

"yeah I thought you too would be perfect since your both cute"

"what?" I laugh

"well I have to run but can you watch Lucky?"

"You kidding? I'd love too"

Chase smiled and walked away ten minutes later the door reopened.

"So how are you liking Lucky?"

"I love him" I said turning around to see… Jacob. "Jacob what are you doing here?"

"I think you very well know why"

"what?"

"I'm here to aplogoize"

"An apology isn't enough, Jacob"

"I know that's why I got you Lucky"

"what?"

"He will guard you when I can't"

"Jacob I can't-"

"You will and you will love it"

"thank you, how'd you know I was here"

Jacob looked sheepishly at me "I kinda overheard you last night talking to yourself about a better life, help volunteering"

my face reddened "you heard that?"

He nodded.

I pick up Lucky examining his face "Why lucky?"

he rolled his eyes as petted Lucky in my arms "because your my lucky charm and this is just a reminder"

I scoffed "wow who knew you were such a romantic"

"I know right"

I roll my eyes.

"Forgive me Nicole?"

"fine but only for Lucky"

"now you see how this name comes in handy"

I laugh "yeah, yeah…" I said as I rubbed Luckys belly.

**** Later that night

"Wow isn't he too cute?"

"I know I am" Jacob said smirking.

"You ass I was talking about Lucky"

"yeah okay…"

I push him over causing him to fall near Lucky. Lucky immediatly barked at Jacob.

"Good boy Lucky kill him" I said encouragly.

In responce Lucky growled.

"I think I found another guy who likes you" Jacob laughed.

"who?"

"Lucky"

when Lucky heard his name he started howling.

"See all the guys go crazy for you" Jacob said slyly.

"Yeah, mostly the dogs" I laughed.

This time Jacob was the one to pushed me over.
