I woke up to the sound of my sister screaming. And if you wake up to that, you instinctively start screaming, too.
I opened my eyes and let out a huge shout. The ground was rumbling. I jumped up to the wooden floor of our cabin and ran down the hall. I has slept in my green shirt, jeans and jacket, since I had come from a long day of school.
I ran to the door. It was open. In front of it was my sister screaming, staring.
"What's going on?!" I yelled. Then I looked in her direction. Instantly, I wished I hadn't.
A huge tornado, easily the size of fifteen Empire State buildings (and yes, I've seen the Empire State Building) was sucking up the entire village. My sister's tears were being sucked in as the storm got closer and she started shifting as well.
I quickly pulled her in and shut the door.
"What happened?" I asked her.
"I don't- don't know!" she said, still sobbing.
She stood up, wiping the tears from her eyes. We were almost the same height, despite the fact she was three years older than I was.
"I woke up, and then I looked outside and then this!" she spluttered.
"It's still pretty far, I think we can take the village away before it gets too close," I said.
"No! It's moving at alarming speed, it'll probably swallow the whole village in an hour!" she said and started crying again.
I opened the door and looked outside. She was right. A few miles closer and the village would be destroyed.
I closed the door and looked at my sister. "See?!" she cried.
Her brown hair was messy and her dark eyes were swollen and red. Her olive skin turned as white as snow, due to the stress.
"I have an idea," I said.
"What? You're gonna save the whole village? Keep dreaming! We're all gonna die here!" she cried, pulled out her phone and took a picture.
"What are you doing?!" I yelled.
She was still crying, but murmured the words, "Before death selfie, hashtag death, hashtag-"
I slapped the phone out of her hand. "Listen to me!" I yelled at her. I felt bad, but taking selfies now was quite stupid.
"What?! You don't have superpowers! A fifteen year old who has a plan can save a whole village from destruction by probably the biggest storm known to man!" she screamed.
As she said it, I felt more and more doubtful about my plan, but I had to try.
"Might as well die trying, right?" I asked.
"No," she muttered then sighed. "Fine, what's the plan?"
I explained the plan.
"No," she said.
"Hey don't-"
"NO! I lost mom and dad, now I can't lose you!" she screamed and hugged me tight.
"Hey, there's a chance we can both get out of here," I said.
"And that's like the lowest probability ever!" she shouted in my ear.
"Hey, sis," I said and made her look me in the eye. "I'll be fine, and if anything goes wrong, you know what to do."
She looked down at the floor and sobbed.
"Hey, hey, relax," I said even though there was nothing to relax about at the time. "Go talk to Bill and get the truck ready. Come on move!"
