I hope whoever invented needles is burning in Hell right now. Have them be damned for creating such a weapon of torture that plagues my mind. It's a fear that takes over at the sight, let along it being put into my body at any point. Lucky me though I didn't have to have a needle stuck in me as I was already bleeding from my nose, letting Doctor Jenner collect it before I worked on stopping the liquid from leaving my head.
One by one, people from our group went up and got blood taken. I stood in the back, watching Caleb go up with Jess. He went before her, taking it like a soldier, like the soldier he was made to be. When it was Jess' turn he was making faces at her while Jenner took the blood. The pair come back and Andrea goes up, being the last person. Once her blood is drawn Andrea gets out of the seat and almost falls over. "Whoa, are you okay?" Jenner asked her as Jacqui quickly moved to help her back to her feet.
Jacqui looks to Jenner as she helps Andrea. "She hasn't eaten in days, none of us have." She says, helping Andrea sit down.
Jenner stands up from the chair he was in. "I think I can fix that," Jenner grunted, moving towards the door, Andrea and Jacqui hot on his heels. I shared a look with Caleb before walking off after them with the rest of the group.
Jenner leads us to an elevator and we all piled in. I stood between Caleb and Daryl at the back of the elevator. Jenner pressed a button and the elevator started to descend down the shaft."Do doctors always go 'round packin' heat like that?" Daryl asked Jenner, leaning back against the wall.
Jenner let out a laugh. "No, but there were enough laying around that I familiarized myself." He says and I let out a chuckle before I started to zone out of the conversation as a whole, staring down as I fiddled with my dog tags, a nervous habit I always had.
"You okay?" Caleb asked, tapping my shoulder blade, making me look to him with a raised eyebrow.
I nod. "Of course," I whisper back to him, a smile on my lips before I dropped it, looking back to the group. I hadn't caught what Jenner said to the group but it made Carl laugh so that was good.
The doors to the elevator opened up soon enough, showing the main room that leads off into two directions. Jenner takes the lead, leading us to the left. We walked to a large room. Stoves, tables, fridges, and other kitchen items surrounded the room.
After a few minutes, laughter filled the room as we ate. Everyone sat around the table but Glenn and I as we sat on a counter and Daryl who was leaning against the counter. The place just lights up with life as we kept on going. "Keep drinkin' Glenn, I want to see how red your face gets," Daryl smirked at Glenn from behind me. At this point, it looked like everyone was getting drunk tonight.
It was nice to see the group be happy after everything that happened prior to now. Smiles and laughter grew quiet as Rick tapped his glass. "I don't think we've properly thanked our host yet." Rick said standing up, "To Jenner." He toasted and the rest of us followed, toasting the doctor.
Of course, someone had to break up the good moment. "No offense Doc, but we didn't come here for the wine. We came here for answers." Shane commented. "Where is everyone?"
Jenner's smile drops at the question. "Well, when things started to get bad everyone left to be with their families or choose to opt out," Jenner explained and a less happy mood set in after that.
I just stayed quiet and kept eating. "Where're the other doctors though? What about that other person you were talking to...Vi?" Andrea asked him.
Jenner looks at the table like there was a person there. "Vi, say hi to our guests, tell our guests. Welcome." Jenner said, making me feel a bit uneasy as he spoke.
Then an electronic female voice boomed through the room, "Hello guests, welcome." Jenner just shrugged. "I'm all that's left." The room filled with silence as we ate now.
I look to Caleb, who was whispering to Jess about something. "Buzz-kill," Glenn muttered under his breath.
I laugh under my breath. "Tell me about it," I say looking to Glenn.
Jenner stood up looking around the group. "Shall I show you guys your rooms?" We followed him back to the elevator and to a hallway with narrow walls and low ceiling. "Okay so there should be cots in every room and go easy on the hot water"
And with that Jenner was gone quickly down the hall. "Did he say hot water!?" Glenn asked. A smile came to my face as I nodded my head and look to Caleb, who had a small smirk on his face. I shake my head in amazement as I turn and open the first door in front of us.
Caleb and I stepped in and look around, behind us. There's a couch and a bed and a table, making me smile and drop my bag and crossbow on the floor. Caleb put his stuff on the floor and laughed as I jumped on the bed.
"Cae. . .this bed. . .is so much better than the ones at home. You remember how shity they were?" I asked, closing my eyes as I feel the bed dip down beside me.
"Yeah, they were awful." He says and I smile.
I open my eyes and stare at the ceiling. A laugh left me as I sat up and looked to him. "Well, I don't know about you," I said, hitting his shoulder playfully, making him smile and laugh. "But Ima go take a shower," I said, grabbing my bag and walking into the bathroom that was connected to our room.
I placed my bag on the sink counter and turned on the water, loving the sound of running water and the steam coming from the water. I strip as quickly as I can, anxiety filling me as all I want is to feel the water on my skin.
I step under the water and my smile widens as I dip my head under the falling water of the shower. I run my fingers through my short hair and feel it separate. A laugh soon enough leaves my lips as I open my mouth and let the water fill my mouth.
