Chapter 22

Later that night, I was sitting with Tom when Gregory came over, dressed in the same thing as always and I wondered if he ever washed his cloths.

“Hey, Lorelei do you want to come with me for a second?” he asked.

“Yah I would love to.” I smiled and followed him. Tom couldn’t do anything about it, Gregory was an elder, one of the oldest vampires in our world. If Tom over crossed him, Gregory was able to have the right to kill him. And we both didn’t want that.

Gregory lead us to a ladder leading us to wear the castle used to be. It took us awhile to get to the top but when he lifted the cover, all you could smell was ash, and fire. He helped he get up and we stood there together just looking at the damages that surrounded us. There was nothing, nothing at all. Everything was gone.

It wasn’t till’ Gregory pulled me to him that I realized I was crying. He rested my head on his chest, and gently rubbed my head, and whispered reassuring words to me. We were slowly rocking from side to side. After a while and when I composed myself I moved away from him, his arms released me but reluctantly.

“I guess we have to start all over again right?” I said turning to him.

“Yes. But I think that everything will be better now.” Gregory’s accent was more profound than the last time I talked to him, and I found that I had to strain to hear what he said.

“Really? Because I think things are going to get worse. I mean we are all vulnerable now, we are an easy target now, weak.”

“I see your point, no wonder victor thinks you will make a wonderful Queen you know so much about politics and battlefield tactics.” he put his are around my shoulders and steered us so that we were walking farther into the ashes. We walked for what seemed like hours. We talked about what we missed out on each others life‘s, and how we were doing currently.

I found out the Gregory was having an arranged marriage and that when he heard what happened to us he came over on the first vampire flight he could get. Gregory was a nice guy and anyone would be able to have him, but if I had to choose I think I wouldn’t chose him over Don, Don taught me something about how people are not what they seem.

It was getting later and I wanted to see Tom, so what I asked if wee could leave I noticed that Gregory was just about to do just that.

“You, weren’t listening to me at all were you?” he asked with a tint of annoyance, but it was gone almost as fast as it came.

“I was, but I got distracted again. I’m sorry Gregory.” he took my hand and we began walking back to the entrance to the more underground tunnel.

I was beginning to think that, wouldn’t the humans who lived so far above us on their world wouldn’t they know that our world was on fire, couldn’t they feel it? But I guess I’ll never know will I?

As we got to the opening in the ground. Gregory went first, then I. I closed the door ceiling it shut making sure that nothing could get in at all. Before we could go into the room were everyone else was Gregory pulled me aside and said to me.

“Your not the only spirit user in this vampire world. Victor wants me to teach you some things.”  He gently shoved my shoulder.  While I stared at him in shock.

“Oh come on don’t give me that look, didn’t you ever wonder why no one knew my ability, they wanted everyone to think that it was only you. That way I could teach you everything I no.”

“So this means that I will have to train with you now??”

“Yes, just until you know everything I do, or until you know more than me.” he told me in one of his serious voices.

“Tom  is not going to like this.” I said under my breath, hopping that he wouldn’t hear me, but of course him being older, he heard me clearly. A smile was forming at the corner of his mouth.

“And why not?” he asked. I really didn’t want to answer that.

    “Well, it’s just that-”

“Tom is jalousie of me.” he interrupted.

“Well yah.” I said with a laugh.

“I don’t see why. It because that he thinks that I like you or something?”

“Uhm yes that may be it. You give off the impression that you like me a lot.”

“Well” he said as he stopped us from moving. “I do.” he said. He gently grabbed my hand and traced that lines I had on the palm of my hand.

“Crossed love lines. You have to make a chose in the future.” as he held my hand he pulled me further into his embrace. His arms wrapped around my body. I tried to pull away but he just held me closer.

“Please don’t fight it. Just for the moment let me hold you.” and I let him. He was older, and elder in our world, what he said goes, he’s only just one step down from the king.

I found that his embrace was comforting to me. And that I could feel the Spirit buzzing around him, and wondered why I couldn’t have felt it before. But when he moved his face closer to mine, that was when I moved away from him. He looked hurt for a second and then composed himself.

“I think that we get back to the others.” I opened the door and walk over to Tom, I wanted to get Gregory out of my head for a while.

    “Something wrong?” asked Tom.

“No, nothing.” Tom had that look in his eyes, that I-want- you- right- now look. He pulled he to the back of the room and into a closet that was there if anything happened. I heard the lock click.

“Tom, this is a closet.” I stated.

    “Yes. And?”

“Well, I mean, were going to do it in a closet, isn’t that kind of human?” I said with a laugh.

“Maybe but I don’t care at the moment.” I never felt that doing this in a CLOSET would be so fun, even if it was so HUMAN.
