Ah, the holiday season. The Hogwarts castle was glistening with snow, and the windows were frosted over with fog and ice. If you looked closely, and at the right time, you could see the illustrations that would appear on the windows, a small work of art by the student's hands. Christmas was nearing and that meant going home for the holidays for some students. However for me, it meant staying here, in the place I could truly call home. Almost all of the students were going home, including John, Quinn and Topaz. So I figured I would be spending most of my time alone. I was a bit upset, but I would make the most of my time.
The day that everyone went home was a bit sad. I stood at the Hogwarts doors, hugging my friends goodbye. One by one they all left, Topaz, then Quinn, and finally John, after promising to send me plenty of his families "absolutely incredible" Christmas treats. We hugged again, and he headed out the doors to catch up with Andrew, Robbie, and Quinn. He finally caught up with them, and they all turned around to wave goodbye. I turned back into the castle, and headed towards the common room. I hastily answer the riddle, "What begins with T, ends with T, and has T in it?" , and headed up to the dormitory. I plop down on my bed, and bury my head in the pillow. I should have just gone home for the holidays. What's wrong with me?
Suddenly I feel something warn jump onto my back. I carefully turn over to see Hecate lying on my bed, purring. I pick her up, cradling her in my arms. I sit with my back up against the headboard, holding Hecate for a while, and then I put her down and head to the library. What's a little reading going to hurt?
I move through the rows of books, searching until one catches my eye.
"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes"
I pluck it from the shelf, and walk towards the front of the library. Madame Pince is sat at a small desk, and I show her the book. She scribbles down my name and the book in an enormous binder. She lifts her glasses back up to her face, and scowls at me when I bash my leg against the door frame. I limp my way to through the halls, trying to find a quiet place to read, and before I know it, I'm hopelessly lost. I decide to go with it, and clamber my way up the stairs. Before I know it I have reached the top of a long winding staircase, and I spot the back of a large clock, and realize that I am at the top of the Hogwarts Clock Tower.
I sit down, out of breath, and open my book. I sit and become immersed in the story, as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson go on adventure after adventure, and as Sherlock solves the crimes, John saves their lives. And after god knows how long, I finish the book, and snap it shut. My stomach growls, so I head down the stairs, and into the halls, finding the Great Hall, and entering to only see a few students eating. I look up to see that the top of the great hall is a pink, red and orange ombre, indicating sundown. Had I really been up in the clock tower this whole time? I have absolutely no sense of time. I sit down, shoveling food into my mouth, and then get up and head to the dormitory. I lay down on my bed, Hecate curling herself by my side as I fall asleep.
I wake up in a haze, and that's how the rest of the day goes. I wrap some gifts for my friends, eat, wrap some more and then eat again. Christmas is tomorrow for gods sake, I need to wake up a bit more if I'm going to get through the rest of the day. I shower, and change into a sweater and jeans, and then study for a while, and then I finish up wrapping presents. I zone out for a while and fantasize about the Sherlock book from yesterday. How amazing it would be to solve crimes like that.
I eat some dinner, and then take a short walk in the chilly courtyard. Before I know it, my nose and fingertips fell numb, so I head back inside. I plop down on my bed in the Dormitory, and fall asleep, excited for Christmas tomorrow.
A/N Alrighty guys I don't care if it's September, I'm skipping Halloween because I wanna get this story pat Christmas break pretty quickly. I will definitely try and update Christmas Day at some point this week, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to. Until next time, goodbye! ~Maya
