I sat in my bed, covered by the dark blue and bronze quilt that outlined my small form. I watched and waited out the window for the signal. Then, I saw it in the window. A glimmering spark shot from an open window to bounce off mine. I slowly uncovered myself, slipping silently out of bed. I crept down to the common room, to find Quinn, laying asleep over a pile of books and papers. I grabbed an afghan from a chair, and pulled it over her body. I spotted John waiting for me at the door. He smiled, and we silently slipped through the door, and headed towards the Great Hall.
We moved down hall's taking the shortcuts that Topaz told us about. Finally, with nerves on edge, we reached the Great Hall's tall and glooming doors, that looked oh so much scarier at night. We spotted Topaz rounding a corner, and she came up to us and smiled.
"Follow." she simply said, and we darted off after her. When she finally stopped, we were in the middle of a completely empty hallway. I looked up at Topaz expectantly, and sent her a questioning gaze.
"Just wait." she whispered. "You'll see."
Earlier that day
John, Quinn and I were sitting in the Great Hall, eating breakfast. I was just about to bite into some buttered toast, when Topaz appeared next to me, ripping it out of my hands, and taking a bite for herself instead. She smiled at us, and after she swallowed my toast, she started to talk.
" So guys, the plan tonight is that your sneaking out of your dorms, and your going to come with me to see the cool thing that I found last night. Sage, Quinn, I'll be sending you a spark that will bounce off your window. It will be purple. John from your window you'll be able to see the purple glimmer from your window. Then sneak out of your dorms, and meet me here, at the doors. Got it?"
Quinn moved up her head, and whispered into my ear. She didn't know Topaz very well, and so she wasn't comfortable talking to her quite yet.
"Quinn won't be coming, as she is studying for the surprise pop quiz that Professor Flitwick will be giving us tomorrow." I said to Topaz, and she nodded her head.
"It's okay if you don't come. Anyways.."
She went on to telling John and I shortcuts through the castle that nobody ever went through, and how to get there quicker. She finished with a large bite of my toast, and said with her mouth full,
"Get it, got it, good. See you guys tonight!"
She walked of, her braid swishing behind her. I turned to John, and said,
"Well, I guess we're failing the quiz tomorrow."
"We're actually going through with this?"
"Yeah, why not? It sound fun!"
I turned back, and buttered another slice of toast.
Present time
I stared at the wall, and suddenly it changed into a door. I stepped back, astounded, and so did John. Topaz grinned at us, and pulled open the door, as we slipped inside. I looked around at the interior.
The room looked like somewhere you would hang out with friends, a bit of a party type setup. The south wall was lined with some bookshelves, and a large amount of comfy beanbags surrounded them. To the left was a large white screen, and some speakers, from what I was guessing. They seemed to fit my book's descriptions. A small ways back from the screen, a white box with a lens hung from the ceiling.
The other side of the room had a large table, and a kitchenette setup was next to it. I walked over to the fridge, pulling it open to see large amounts of food. Near the center of the room, three beds were lined up against the wall, each with a bureau at the foot of the bed. I watched as John pulled out his bag of books from his bureau.
Topaz looked confused.
"I-I don't understand. When I was in here before, it looked like... well just a huge movie theater but instead of rows of chairs, there were mountains of beanbags, and I had a good movie marathon! But now its completely different. This is odd. But eh, I like the change!
We stayed up, eating, reading, watching movies, and having fun until the we saw the sun peak up, and then we settled down and slept for a few hours. When we woke up, we rushed to class, after getting up 20 minutes before it started. John and I jogged off to Charms, and Topaz rushed away to arithmetic. We waved goodbye, and headed into class.
John and I both failed the quiz. Quinn got a 100%.
