My brother Conner was having a weird meltdown, and I had no idea what to do. When that boy was upset, he took his emotions out on anyone that happened to be in the same vicinity, so I was quickly making my way up to my room when I received an unexpected text from Ethan:
Ethan: You wanna come over today?
It was like every single time that notification appeared on my phone screen and it had Ethan's name on it, my heart skipped a beat.
It had been fate that I found them at the skate park. I had tried desperately to contact them before, but it had always told me number blocked. As soon as I saw Ethan that Saturday, all my old feelings from third grade had returned. In fact, I don't think they ever left. They had just been hidden all these years, and I had distracted myself with other guys, trying to get rid of those feelings that insisted on clouding my thoughts.
Another text appeared after I had replied:
Ethan: lol. See you soon. Wear something nice. I have a surprise for u
My mind swirled with thoughts. What kind of surprise? If it was another prank, I swear I would kill him - and Grayson, who had been an accomplice last time.
I skimmed through my closet, until I found a dress I had never seen before. I didn't wear dresses often since I didn't feel too comfortable and free to move in them, but my mom insisted on buying them for me anyway. I guess it was for occasions like this.
The dress was light blue, and had flowing material. It reached my lower thigh, which was pretty good for the weather outside. I was going to pair it with a leather jacket and black ankle boots.
I got dressed and decided to straighten my normally wavy hair. I put on light makeup and all that jazz. I smiled at my reflection in the mirror.
"Conner, I'm going out," I yelled.
He came down the stairs shirtless and tired-looking. He was stressed out studying for his midterms. "Where?"
"The Dolans'," I said, grabbing my phone and small purse.
"Ooooh, Ethan," he teased.
I groaned, "I regret ever telling you about my crush on him."
He laughed, "So, why're you dressed all fancy like that if you're going to the twins' house?"
"Ethan texted me and told me to wear something nice. Maybe we're going somewhere, I don't know, he just said he had a surprise for me," I explain, shrugging.
Conner smirks for a minute. Does he know something I don't? I think nothing of it.
"Bye," I chirp, giving him a quick hug before running out the door.
I finally made it to their house about ten minutes later since it was just a few blocks away, and rang the doorbell. Damn, the memories this place brings back. I used to come here every day. I usually didn't even ring the doorbell, but since we still weren't quite as close to each other as before, I did this time.
Grayson opened the door, giving me a huge smile, "Hey, Addi."
"What up, G?" I replied, giving him a hug.
"Hold up, let me get Ethan," he says, "ETHAN, ADDI'S HERE!"
"COMING!" Ethan's voice came down the stairs.
I stood waiting, until I saw a pair of shoes hit the hard floor. Ethan looked hot. He was wearing a navy polo which showed his muscles and made him look much older than he was. Those khakis hugged his legs beautifully and his hair was nice and fluffy, I just wanted to pet it.
