The wedding was perfect, everything I could've dreamed of. Most importantly, I had been married to my best friend. Dan and I had been through so much together, to be his wife just made every struggle worth it. That magical moment could never be replaced. However, the night was just getting started. In the schedule, there was a "Bride's Surprise" and obviously, being the bride, I had no idea what was happening. I tried not to be so anxious about it and decided to socialize. My sister was especially proud of me. Around 10, the Bride's Surprise began. I looked around for Dan but I couldn't find him... I was slightly bummed, worried he'd left already. But it made no sense. I just sat back and watched. My little sister was up there, in a gold bridesmaid dress. "Dedicated solely to the bride of the night, people who care a lot about you have put together this performance, in honor of you and your special night. To Mrs. Dan Howell!" She held up a glass of water. Everyone in the audience cheered back as she walked off the platform.
A three part harmony started. "Oo, girl look at you." I could distinguish the people immediately. Ian, Anthony and Phil. Best man and groomsmen. Right behind them walking out was my husband. And he was singing. He never sang songs like this.
Never in our 5 years of dating had he ever sang There Goes My Baby by Usher. But then I remembered the significance of the song. It was our song, the night we'd lost our virginities to each other. Of course, the entire guest list needed to know that.
"There goes my baby," Dan sang with background vocals. I couldn't help but cry. It was so sweet and thoughtful. Especially when I had been with so many guys who would forget something that was as important as this to me. Dan remembered, while I'd forgotten.
Dan walked directly to me, spotlight following him. "You don't know how good it feels to call you my girl. There goes my baby." Dan kept eye contact with me as everyone watched. "Loving everything you do, ooh, girl, look at you."
Dan had made his way to me, taking my hand. I stood up and walked around with him. I kept blushing and letting the tears of pure bliss fall. I turned and looked at my sister and my mom. They just mouthed "awe". My friends, crying with me. Ian, Anthony and Phil still singing along. After the first verse, Dan and I actually began dancing as he sang the music we'd dance to. By the third chorus, Dan stopped dancing and got down on one knee as he'd done the year previously, this time, sitting me atop his knee. During the part where Dan put his entire heart into singing the smaller parts instead of singing the main parts, each groomsman took a turn. Out of respect, they sang "there goes his baby."
"There goes my baby. You don't know how good it feels to call you my girl." Dan held onto me. "There goes my baby, loving everything you do, ooh girl, look at you." And the music stopped. Dan had this look of immense love in his eyes. He picked me up and spun me around, as the audience clapped.
"Dan... I-I don't know what to say." I whispered.
Dan smiled, pulling me closer. "You already said "I Do", Mrs. Daniel James Howell." Our lips connected for a long passionate kiss in front of everyone that we cared for and loved as much as that cared for and loved us. Phil grinned with pure pride. Anthony smiled, applauding the newfound love. Ian had actual tears in his eyes.
I pulled away and pulled Dan into the tightest hug ever. "I love you, Dan." I smiled.
"I love you too, Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N-Howell." He smiled taking me over to grab another plate of food.
