Phil's daughter is a lesbian and his wife doesn't like it or understand it. You will be Phil's wife and this puts you in a bad light if you are part of or an ally of the LGBTQIA+ I apologize in advance, once again, this is a script someone has written for our drama class. 2226 Words
We had sat down to dinner at around 7 and not 5 minutes later, my wife, Y/N, was starting to have conversation with our daughter, Jessie. She cleared her throat. "How was school, Jessa?"
"Fine," Jess said quickly, taking another bite of food.
Y/N nodded. "What's new?"
"Nothing." I continued reading a section of the newspaper as I pulled a spoonful of mashed potatoes to my mouth. Y/N jabbed me in the side, signalling that I should force Jess to talk.
I sighed, sipping on my soda, "Jess, talk to your mother."
I heard a long drawn out sigh come from my right side as she began to talk. "I aced my Chemistry final, failed my Geometry final, rocked the drama and choir auditions, scored about 80 points in basketball and then stayed after watching the soccer game with Toni." She put emphasis on the girl's name. I rolled my eyes behind the paper again, knowing what the next sentence was going to be.
"Now, Jessa." Y/N started. "I think you're spending too much time with that girl. You need math for chemistry, how can you fail the Geometry test but excel in the Chemistry test?" She sighed. "I think you should stop seeing her so much."
Jess laughed, setting her plate to the side. "Well, mother, I can't quite do that. She is my girlfriend."
Her mother laughed in return, taking another bite of food. "I thought you'd learn by now that this is just a phase. You've got a big heart, honey. You think you're in love and you think you two are girlfriends."
"We are girlfriends." Jess sighed. "I thought you'd learn by now that I'm a lesbian. I am a gay woman, a homosexual female. I will never have a husband, I may never carry children, I will not have sex with a man, I am a lesbian."
I sat back, not knowing how to fix this. The argument was about to get heated. "You loved dressing up in those cute little dresses and going to church, don't you remember Jessa?"
"Do not... Call me Jessa."
"Jessa, you had long blonde hair, now you look like a posh schoolboy with black hair with rainbow streaks around. This is not the girl I raised you to be." Y/n sighed, rubbing her eyes. "This isn't the person God made you to be."
Jess stood up, the chair falling backward. "Will you fucking shut up about God?!" She yelled. "He did make me like this, he failed to give me a mother who is supposed to love me regardless!"
Her mother matched her, standing up. "God gave me an embarrassment of a daughter who wants to be a son. I didn't fucking have a son, I gave birth to a baby girl!" Y/N took a breath. "I can not love something God sees as an abomination. And I need you to change so I can see you in Heaven again. Not this thing that's trying to call itself my daughter."
I looked up at her, "Y/N..."
"You know what, Y/N?" Jess started. "You hate me that much? I will gladly move out. If I'm embarrassing you that much, I will pack up my shit and tomorrow evening, you two can sit at the table fighting about how you didn't care enough about me." Jess turned and ran to her room, slamming the door. I picked up her chair as Y/N went to bed. I sighed, letting a tear fall. I was letting my daughter feel like her family didn't want her around and I hadn't even objected her dating girls. I picked up the dishes, washing them in the kitchen. I sighed, turning off all the lights and then went to talk to Jess. I knocked on her door softly, "Jess?" I asked, calling her by her preferred name.
