Arjun
"Hey Anjali, how are you?" I asked as I crammed into the phone booth in the hotel hallway.
"Hey Arjun, where are you? Are you here in New Jersey? Do I need to come pick you up from the bus station?" Anjali asked excited.
"Slow down, Anjali. I'm still in Boston," I sighed.
"When are you coming to see me?"
"I'm afraid I have bad news. I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to see you."
"Why?" Anjali asked softly.
"Because I couldn't keep my mouth shut," I confessed.
"Did you get kicked off the bus?"
I laughed; Anjali always knew what to say to make me feel better, "No, I never even made it to the bus station."
"Uh-oh, what did you do Arjun?"
"Well, how do I put this?" I paused not knowing how to explain it.
"This has something to do with Ms. Icy Pants doesn't it?"
"How'd you guess?"
"Really?" Anjali asked sarcastically.
"I think I really need to shut up sometimes."
"What exactly did you do that was so bad and what does it have to do with you coming here? I was really hoping you'd come here so I can show you my hometown and you can meet my family and of course Katherine," Anjali exclaimed.
"Believe me, I was really looking forward to coming to see you after Alex' graduation. Trust me when I tell you that I do not want to be here any longer in Boston."
"What did you do?" Anjali asked again.
"My parents said I've been extremely rude to Christina and that it would be best if I cancel my trip to see you and stay longer in Boston and get to know Christina better," I repeated verbatim my mother's voice in her English accent.
Anjali laughed so hard; I couldn't see her but I could visualize her sliding down the side of her bed as she laughed her heart out.
"Those are your mum's exact words aren't there. And if I have this right your dad then proceeded to go off in Punjabi and his tone probably wasn't as calm."
"Well you definitely know my parents," I said sarcastically.
"Do you want me to find an excuse to make a trip to Boston?" Anjali asked.
"Yes. No. I don't know Anjali. I think even Alex is pissed off at me. I may have really gone too far."
"So I take it Alex is still with Ms. Icy Pants."
"Yup."
"Wow it's serious."
"Unfortunately, it is. I think he wants to marry her. The idiot."
I heard Anjali take a deep breath.
I continued, "He's even going into investment banking and staying in New York. I think my parents thought he'd had his fill of the east coast and would come back home. But she has his claws in him."
"Maybe you're being too harsh," Anjali countered.
"You haven't met her. Plus I wish my brother were coming back. Not to mention I can't see him in investment banking."
"A lot can change in four years. He's not the same person that left the Bay area."
"If he decides to stay on the East coast I'm going to come here for med school and then I'll hatch an evil plan to break them up. Haha haha," I joked.
"Great then we'll be together!"
"What do you mean?"
"Your brother may have a choice to pick where he lives but my parents will kill me if I don't head back to the East coast after graduation."
"Well then it's settled I'm moving to the east coast if both you and Alex are going to be here."
I could feel Anjali smiling through the phone, "I like that plan."
