"Have you ever had that feeling- that you'd like to go to a whole different place and become a whole different self?"
-Haruki Murakami
Chapter 1
"Are you sure about your decision?" my father asks me as he looked at me carefully.
"I think it's just what I need, dad" I nod my head, hugging my pillow close to me. We were in my room, I was sitting on my bed and my father was sitting on my computer chair as I tell him about my plans of moving to L.A.
"Does this have anything to do with Sarah?" he mentions my stepmother as he knows what kind of relationship I have with her.
"Well it's partly the reason" I start to tell him. He was about to say something, probably to say that we could work it out, but before he could even say I word I beat him to it "But I don't want to force her to like me cause she has a very good reason not to. I understand where she's coming from" I tell him. My stepmother is not evil or anything like what Cinderella has, it's just that with her experience when my father had an affair with my mother, I can understand why she can never accept me. My dad was just looking down at the floor now "And my other reason is that I just want to get away from Indiana. This place just has a lot of memories that I just want to escape. I want a fresh start, dad"
He lets out a deep breath then says "Okay. But you'll visit us once in a while, alright?"
I smile at him and stand up from my bed to give him a hug "Thank you for understanding"
He leaves my room and I begin to pack. I also texted my best friend telling her that my father already agreed. She'll be moving to L.A. with me because we both planned on going to college there. I got my suitcase from under my bed and start filling it up with my clothes. It was only last year that I was unpacking my clothes from my home with my mom, and now I'm packing again but this time I'm excited for what awaits me in L.A.
I finish packing about three hours later; I didn't have a lot of clothes which is a good thing. I also left some of my stuff since I promised my dad that I would still visit, but it would probably be a while before I do that.
I was resting my eyes when I hear a knock on my door. I got a little nervous because there are only two people who usually visit me in my room, my dad or my half-brother, Tommy. Tommy never knocks and last time I checked, my dad had a business dinner.
I breathed in and opened the door to see my stepmother. She looked shocked that I opened the door, she was already a few feet away actually. "I thought you were asleep"
"N-no. I actually just finished fixing my things" I tell her. This is rare. She usually only acknowledges me when she has no choice.
"Oh I see" she was looking at the floor, obviously trying to avoid eye contact with me. "Well dinner is ready and you're probably hungry after all that packing" She glanced at me and offered a small smile.
"Okay. I'll be right down" I smile at her as well to be polite.
She nods and went on her way to the dining room.
I close my door and wonder why she was doing this. I sigh and glanced at my phone to see Andrew calling. I ignore it because I don't really want to talk to him, like ever.
I get out of my room and made my way to the dining room. I see that there are only two plates that were set up. She was sitting in the other chair as if she was waiting for me.
