"The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it"
-J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Chapter 7
"Good morning Skyler" Steve greeted as I entered the shop. I'm fifteen minutes early, which is a miracle because you know how I like to sleep in.
"Good morning Steve" I then made my way to the back, to leave my things before going out again to prep things up before we open.
Steve was putting in pastries on display, while I set up the chairs and dust off the table. A few minutes later, Dina came in with a frown on her face.
"What's up with you?" I asked as I finish with the last table.
"I found out that my boyfriend was gay" she answered with a monotone voice as if things are just sinking in.
"Oh" was all I could say. I found it slightly amusing, but of course I felt bad for her. One thing I learned about Dina is that she hasn't had a boyfriend yet that lasted more than two months and I think she's a pro at moving on because two weeks later she'll be dating again.
She shook her head then made her way to the back. She didn't look devastated though, maybe she saw it coming? Or maybe she didn't like the guy much and was probably just shocked.
We opened and business was the usual. I've been here for almost a month now, and I have gotten better at making the drinks and I've also gotten to know the usual costumers, not in the casual kind of way but I observed how they come in everyday, order the same drink, and sit on the same spot. Like Dan who just came in. He works in the building across from us. He'll order black coffee, and then sit near the door.
Steve took his order. I didn't wait for the order and started on his coffee. I already had it when Steve gave me the paper that had his order. I checked and I was right so I handed it to him. He was a little surprised that it was already made but then gave a satisfied smile before going on to his seat.
"You're getting better at this" Steve complimented as he began taking the order of an old man.
I grinned at him "I am a fast learner"
He just chuckled before handing me the order for me to make. I've already memorized the ingredients of every drink, all thanks to Dina's little recipe book. I made the drink in less than 2 minutes then handed it to the man with a smile, well it was just a simple drink.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I usually don't use my phone while working but since there was no order to make, I decided to look and check who it was.
Will be there in 5mins
It was Tyler. He lets me know when he's almost here so I can start making his special drink. I'm already a pro at making it, it's actually the first drink I learned to make.
As expected, Tyler came in five minutes later just as I put his drink on the counter.
"Good morning beautiful people" he greeted us including the other customers who just smiled at him, I swear a group of girls swooned.
"I've been wondering, why do you always come here just to sit, drink, and stay for hours?" I asked him. Doesn't he have other things to do? Like it's still vacation, he could go on a trip or something.
"Sick of my face already?" he teased.
"No. Just curious"
He looks around the place "I just find this place soothing" he wasn't smiling but he wasn't frowning either, he just looked... relaxed.
