"Why do you let them?" He asks.
"Why do you take it?" He follows up.
I answer with a simple and blunt, "I don't know. Maybe I've had too much and now the only way for me to deal is just to take what I get and live with it."
I hear his breathing increase and I want to laugh. Why does he care?
"Are you okay?" I sigh and roll my eyes. "I'm fine." I reply.
"You don't sound so sure of yourself."
"I'm not." I told him.
Was I really, okay? I mean mentally I know I was good as fucked, like a stripper at a strip club, but physically, I wasn't sure. I'm so tired and weak, I can't help but let my eyes flutter closed. My head rests against the window. A hand touches my knee and I jump mentally, but physically I stay put.
I felt heavy and weighed down. I looked up imagining a long bar running across chest with two big heavy metal weights on either end. I panic when I realize it's crushing me and my hands flying up. I cry for help, but no one was around to help me.
"Anna, stay awake. We are almost there." He states.
My mind is forced, but I remember where I am. I listen to the sound of the car on the road and the wind passing by whispering to me. I want to tell him I'm awake, but I can't. My eyes are closed and I'm too exhausted to speak. My heavy breathing taking all of my energy.
"Anna?" He sounds nervous. "Anna... Come one Anna." His handshakes me a bit, but it's no use I'm too tired to react.
"Fuck," He says under his breath.
The car comes to a halt and I hear Carson curse a few times on his was out of the car. The car door shuts with a slam and I'm caught off guard by my door opens. Not because the cold, but because I had my head leaning against the door.
To my pleasure, he rushed and caught me before I toppled out. He gently slides his hand under my legs and hooks it around my knees and slides his other hand to hook my shoulders. Slowly he lifts me up and out of the car. I'm bouncing up and down and shaken while he walks. I assume that the sliding doors open, and we walk through.
"Someone. Please get her help now. She was in a bad fight, and now she won't wake up." Carson blurts out.
"Come with me." A woman's voice announces.
I want to say that I'm perfectly fine, just exhausted but like the last time I'm weighed down. But this time the bar is thicker and wider and the weights on each end are bigger and heavier. I cough and scream, and eventually my breathing is cut out and everything goes black. I look out into a pit emptiness.
* * *
"So..?" Carson asks.
"Uh... It's not looking too good." I heard a breath intake and I mentally asked what they were talking about.
My eyes cracked open and I looked around. The walls surrounding me were white, I rested in a bed in the centre of the room. My body was stripped of my clothing and dressed in a blue hospital gown. I was weak and my body ached as I moved a single bit.
The voices came from outside my room. They got louder, and I realized they were coming closer. I sighed and awaited their arrival.
"She's okay – right?" I heard Carson.
"- For now. We need to – surgery – to remove – she will be fine. She is just lucky she doesn't have a concussion and she can get some rest.
I hear Carson thank her and breath out slowly. He entered the room and his eyes fell on me. I shift uncomfortably under his gaze and he perks up. "You're awake!"
"I'm wide awake." I sigh, making a joke.
He laughs and sits down. His gaze falls to the floor, in thought. "So, what were you talking bout to the doctor?"
I sit up straighter and lifts his eyes to meet mine. We stay in silence for a minute before he speaks up. "You have major bruising."
"And..." I urge.
"You have some internal bleeding in your right side, they have to do some surgery to remove some of the blood clotting." My breath hitches. "What?"
"You're fine. It's all right, but they need to call your parents and let them know. They are doing that now. You go into surgery when they get here and sign some papers." My eyes are wide, and my mouth is hanging open. I can feel the panic setting in.
"You're going to be fine." He reassures me, but I'm still panicked
He grabs my hand in his and his thumb grazes over the top of my hand soothingly. The touch feeling like silk on silk. My heart rate slows, and my breathing decreases and I laid myself back down.
"Today you do... Tomorrow you will." He whispers.
Today I do... Tomorrow I will.
