Today is to pay tribute to older people,

and recognise their contribution to society,

for all they have done to give us a better world,

we must now make their welfare a priority.

Today's senior citizens have to feel wanted,

because we have an ageing population,

we have to acknowledge the sacrifices they made,

when they were part of the younger generation.

The older people in our world are overlooked for employment and restricted from certain activities, which has a negative effect on them which can shorten their lives. We must remember that one day we will be old too, do we want to be discarded by society, do we want our opinions not to be heard any more, of course not, so please show older people the respect they deserve. On December 14th 1990 the United Nations General Assembly by resolution 45/106 designated October 1st the International Day of Older Persons.
