October 6th National Mad Hatters Day.

Today is National Mad Hatters day,

so behaving silly is totally accepted,

why not dress up in unusual clothes,

have fun doing the unexpected,

try and fill the world with laughter,

let others with happiness become infected.

October 6th was selected as National Mad Hatters Day because his hat had a note attached to it saying " in this style 10/6 " this note is the order for the style of hat and the price, 10 shillings and 6 pence but it could also be used as a date, October 6th. The drawings of the mad hatter in Alice in Wonderland were drawn by John Tenniel. As mad as a hatter originates from the 18th and 19th century hat making industry where mercury nitrate was used which led to those who were exposed to it over a long period to suffer mental ailments including speech problems, hallucinations and tremors, known as hatter's shakes.
