Today it's National apple day,

a fruit that's nice in a pie,

just cover it with custard

and enjoy as time goes by.

An ancient Greek throwing an apple

was a sign of marriage proposal,

If caught meant she accepted,

If dropped meant a refusal.

An apple tree takes between four and five years to produce any fruit and the apple will ripen six to ten times faster at room temperature than it will in a refrigerator. One of the largest apples ever picked weighed three pounds. Apples are a member of the rose family. The top producers are China, United States, Turkey, Poland and Italy. It takes 36 apples to make one gallon of cider.
