National days I write about
are sometimes done for fun
but Anti Slavery Day
reminds us what was done .
The slaves led a shocking life,
beatings were a daily thing,
made to work such long hours,
only death would freedom bring.
But still this goes on today,
exploitation just the same,
women and children traded,
we should hang our heads in shame.
Anti Slavery Day is to make people realise that despite the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade more than 200 years ago men, women and children are still being exploited, the terrible crime of human trafficking still continues.
