I wrapped the shiny paper over the tiny box carefully and tape down the sides. Once I was done I sigh in relief and place it with the pile of gifts under my tree that I just finished wrapping. It’s Christmas Eve and I’m all alone until tonight. I decorated the flat to the best I could to be in the Christmas spirit.
Christmas came too soon than my liking. With Kylie’s death last week, and I had nothing bought in the first place until yesterday, made it difficult to find something for everyone in the group, a tiny gift for my professors, and something for Georgina.
Of course I’m depressed, but I took Kylie’s note to heart and not let it take over my life I have in the past. I’ve tried my hardest to move on, but I just miss her so much. Everything in the flat reminds me of her, especially since she is the one who decorated the flat in the first place. The worst part was emptying out her room. We donated her clothes to the older girl orphans at Leed’s, and they promised to use it as gifts for them. Her possessions I couldn’t bear to part with is in a small storage that is just five minutes away, so if I want to go over there, I don’t have to go far. Although I told him not to, Liam had agreed to pay for the monthly rent.
Speaking of Liam, he had been keeping something from me. I don’t know what it is, but every time I’ve asked him about work, he would get stiff and change the subject. I know he’s been on tour around the rest of Europe and come back home for a few days in between dates. It bugs me so much because I hate secrets.
I pace around the room, trying to figure it out while taking out a pie from the oven. A knock on the door startled me and I place the pie on the counter I wipe my hands on my apron instinctively and take it off, revealing my simple red dress. I go and open and I see Jane, Marie, Eleanor, and Perrie at the door with a bowl, plate, or serving tray. They all had huge bags, which held the presents.
“Hey! Come in! It’s freezing out there!” I move aside to let the four girls in dresses over coated by large coats. I put a piece of log into the fireplace to heat up the room since my heating is crap anyways. They all strip off their coats and reveal different but festive dresses.
“So where are the lads?” I asked as they went over to the fire and sit down.
“They’re on their way. It’s amazing, we were all ready and they were still getting ready!” laughs Perrie. I chuckle and sit down next to Eleanor.
“So, how you holding up Bridge?” asks Jane a bit wary. Knowing what she means by that I sigh and smile weakly.
“I’m ok. It’s just hard passing by her room, it’s too empty, you know?” Eleanor squeezes my shoulder and I give her a smile. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
A knock on the door had me running, knowing it was the guys. I open it and see Liam, smiling, in casual but at the same time, nice clothing. He had a small Santa hat, along with the other guys who waved from behind.
“Let us in, it’s bloody freezing out!” says Louis from outside. I move aside, and let them in, Liam stands aside with me and kisses me gently. They all were holding presents, but in bags. Liam was the only one that held his. They close the door, letting the heat get trapped again.
“I got this for you, I suggest you open it right now, though.” He smiles. I think it’s my imagination, nut I felt as if something inside was moving. It wasn’t wrapped, it was just a colored box with holes on the bottom. I felt a small paw brush against my hand.
“Liam you did not!” I said surprised. I walk over quickly to where everyone was sitting and took off the lid. A tabby kitten slept quietly at the center of the box.
“I thought I should be special.” He said smiling.
“Aw let me hold her!” squeals Jane. I pick up the sleeping kitten, which woke up at my touch. Its eyes were missed matched, one green and one yellow. She meowed softly, earning the affection of all of us girls. I passed her to Jane and the kitten begun playing with her curls.
“She’s just so precious!” squeals Marie. Eleanor and Perrie leave their seats and walk over to coo at the kitten.
“Thank you Liam, so much, I love her.” I hug him and peck his lips.
“I knew you would. At first, I had trouble getting her in the box, but I gave her like a piece of a sleeping pill and waited for it to take effect.” I looked at him surprised.
“Whoa, it was a tiny bit, I would never give the tiny thing anything larger.”
“I thought it was for us.” Pouted Louis. I just giggle and Marie hands me the kitten back. It purred loudly, curled up in my lap and went back to sleep.
“She so beautiful. I think I’ll name her… Kylie.” I scratched her head gently with a finger, making her purr even louder.
From then on out, we all talked and laughed tons. Just all of us being together felt like we were just one big family. It felt so natural. I took out the Champaign I had in the back of the cupboard and served us all a cup. Like before, dinner was just as loud. Jane and Marie made some Latino cooking, which I never had before. And for them, they had never tired figgy pudding, minced pies, or anything that we would eat here, which I made. It was funny trying to explain what was in the minced pies and they were so lost. I forget sometimes that not everywhere have the same traditions as us here.
“I thought pies had fruit or pumpkin. This new for me.” Laughs Marie.
Nether the less, it was the best Christmas Eve dinner I ever had. Every year before, it was just me and Kylie and a few friends eating reheated pies and some already made turkey. Then we would go to a party and get absolutely wasted. This dinner, though, felt more traditional and at home.
After that, we continued to talk some more, but we were then absorbed in our own little worlds. Liam and I had our legs tangled up to keep each other warm.
“Oi, Marie, remember we got you to kiss Harry’s big toe?” laughs Louis from the other side of the living room.
“Yea, and I used up all your mouthwash you prick. Actually, that was Zayn, you’re the prick.” She glares at Zayn who was laughing.
“And remember El, we put flour all over your face?” laughs Louis.
“And the ice cube in your trousers, Liam?” laughs Eleanor.
“And the powder sugar in your hair?” said Liam to Jane.
“And we made you eat those carrots?” laughed Jane to Louis. He made a face in disgust and we all laugh. Louis hates carrots now, I find I quiet hilarious. Marie told me when she first meet him, he would eat carrots almost every day, but now, he can’t stand the sight of them. Something about the fans taking it too far. Either way, he hates it when I, or anyone else mention the word ‘carrot’.
“God I thought I was going to vomit.” Said Louis. Kylie woke up and pounced at Harry, who was laying on the floor and attack his hair.
“Argh! The pussy is attacking me!” he shouts. Jane and Marie snort in laughter.
“You dirty minded perves!” I shout, making them laugh even harder.
Yep, this is our family. A little strange, but still family.
