“She really loves him-” The guy playing King Triton was cut off but a huge sand bag falling from the rafters, causing a loud crash behind us for the fifth time today.
“Cut!” shouts the professor. She pinches the bridge of her nose in annoyance and tosses her papers on the desk lazily.
“I think that will be all today.” She sighs. Alex, or Prince Eric in this case, helps me off the make-shift rock the art department built for this play for my character to lay down on when I need to.
“What do you think is going on with the back stage crew?” chuckles Alex.
“I don’t know. I think they can’t handle the pressure put on to them by Branson.” I giggle. We reach to the dressing rooms where all the actor’s stuff was put in a huge pile. I grab my bag, and put on my jacket, scarf, and knit gloves. I swing the bag over my shoulder and Alex does the same. Vanessa sashays past me, running into me with her shoulder.
“What is her deal? Just because they gave her that small part to be Ariel so I could voice over Jane during that part, doesn’t mean you can still treat people like crap!” Alex gripped my shoulder and chuckled.
“Don’t worry about her, she’s always been a bitch. I’ve known her since we were 16.”
“I still don’t understand how you could defend her.” I grumbled. He just chuckles and we walk out of the theater and into the walkway. I see Liam walking over, trudging through the layer of snow. He looks up and smiles.
“I’ll see you later!” I said to Alex, giving him a hug and running off to him. He hugs me tightly then smiles weakly.
“Liam what’s wrong?” I ask.
“I need to talk to you.” He says quietly. I look at him surprised and a little bit scared.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to break up with you, or anything like that.” He sighs. I nod and he offers me his hand. I reluctantly take hold of it and we walk over to his car. We drove over to his flat, in silence. He parks the car in the garage and we get out.
“Can we go for a walk?” he asks quietly. I nod shakily and we walk out into the street. We walk over to the old park that was completely empty. He clears the dry snow off a bench and we sit down.
“How am I going to explain this?” he sighs to himself.
“Liam, what going on?” I asked. My voice croaks, and I’m almost in tears. The worst has been running through my mind the whole time.
What could he be talking about? Was he lying earlier so that I could go with him so he can do a proper break up? Was this whole month just nothing to him? I honestly tried my hardest to be a better person for not only him, but for myself. I put most of my attention back to school, I’ve been sober ever since we started dating, and I even cut off my ‘friends’ to quit partying.
“Bridget, I- I don’t know how to tell you this…”
“If you’re breaking up with me, just say it.” I said quickly and quietly, staring at the ground.
“No, no, Bridget, it’s not that at all, it’s just… I think this is much more difficult to tell you…” I look up and he’s staring at me with watery eyes.
“Bridget… The hospital… called this morning…. Kylie, she… her treatment didn’t work as expected…” Tears fell down my cheek as Liam squeezed my hand. We didn’t say anything for a long time.
“Did she… was she in pain?” I whispered.
“They said she was asleep when her pulse stopped. Though she wrote something to you. Like she knew beforehand.” His voice trailed off. I felt completely numb. I slowly hug Liam as he gives me a squeeze. I sob quietly on his shoulder.
