The next day...
Sam's POV
Katie and I were gonna meet at my mom's house. Maybe, just maybe, the horses would make her feel better. Oh I know that girl. She doesn't think I know that much about her. I do... I was waiting on the porch steps for her. Just waiting to possibly be chewed out. "Sam. How are you today?" "I'm doing alright. Not the same without you." "Mm hmm." She said in a bossy voice. "So. Do you wanna try and explain again? In a more coherent way?" "Okay. Well. You walked away to see Montana. I said to myself I was definitely not going to dance with any girls at all. I was waiting for you to come back." Katie narrowed her eyes and listened processing all I had done. "I was just standing there then I felt a tap on my shoulder. This girl sounded so desperate to dance. I turned around to see who the hell it was. It was Ali. I confronted her about it. She started getting all bossy and bringing you up. Asking if that's why I didn't want to dance. Because of 'Katie Anderson'," I said mimicking Ali. I could tell she wanted to laugh.
I kept on explaining. I had nothing at all to hide so I had no problem. "Then I turned to walk away. Fast. Then she grabbed my arm and I turned around to tell her again to stop but she leaned in fast and pulled me in. That damn girl. I didn't lean in at all. She's the one that leaned it. I stayed right where I was didn't move a muscle forward. Then that's when you and Montana came." "Hmm. I'm gonna think about it." "What's there to think about? I have nothing to hide. I'm telling you ALL that happened. Ask me all the questions you want. Hell. I don't know what she was thinking! I know one thing for sure. I don't wanna lose you." I was out of breath by now. I was talking 100 miles an hour. Then she looked at me. Those dark brown eyes. Like the bark of a tree mixed with the beauty of a river that sparkled in the sun. "I don't wanna lose you either Sam. And I---." She cut herself off. "You what?" I said in a quiet kind of voice. "I love you Sam." Wow. She used the words too. "I love you too." I said as I leaned in for a kiss. Her lips were so soft and calming. Just to hug her was a stress reliever.
"You know. I have a plan." "Oh really?" "Yup. Come on." She followed me to the pens. Her face lit up when she caught on. "SAM. ARE YOU SERIOUS." Oh no. No no. Did she mean this in a bad way? "OH MY GOD. THANK YOU." Phew. Thought this was bad. Turns out it's the total opposite. "Woah. I better calm down! They're gonna pick up on it and think some crazy girl is on them." "So. Are we okay?" "Yes. We're okay. And you made up 100% by letting me ride the horses."
Katie's POV
It was 4:30 and we were out just taking a relaxing ride. It felt so nice to be back in the saddle. The feel of freedom. The crisp air. I loved it. Just like I loved that boy.
