I went about my morning routine and chores. Today was going to be another dinner with Sam. Well, Sam and Clara but still. He's all I can focus on. I tried putting together a nice outfit. I figured I would wear my lacy, strapless, red dress with my tall dress boots. I loved that dress so much. It was more of a maroon color than anything. It's now 4:30 p.m.. Mom and I were leaving to the grocery store. Tonight's dinner was going to be Chicken Alfredo. It was my favorite but on this occasion, I don't think I'd be enjoying it too much. My stomach felt twisted up in a knot. Why was I so nervous? I shouldn't be. It's just the other last dinners ever since Sam's been here we've been real weird at the table. Hell, anywhere really.

Sam's POV

Another dinner with Katie. I don't know how I feel about this. I just don't. I'm a nervous wreck right now, that's all I know. I really like that girl. I do. Does she even like me back? I wonder what that Mason guy did to break her heart... She deserves someone good. Am I good enough?

Katie's POV

Well. We're here now. This is only the beginning. Nice... "Katie. Can you get the boxes of pasta please?" There I was again getting lost in thought over him. "Sure thing." I said as I was grabbing the boxes and closing the door. I had a big lump in my throat. Similar to the feeling of going somewhere new and not knowing any body. Nervous. We walked up the driveway. Knock knock.

Sam's POV

They're here. They are here. Why was I so nervous tonight? I need to stop. My hands were all sweaty. I got up and went to the door. I opened it and I couldn't believe what I saw. That red dress went perfect on her. It made her russet brown eyes stand out even more.

Katie's POV

He's smiling at me like I smile at Cas. Is that good? Is that bad? Crap, I don't know. I give him a smile back. Mom and I go inside. That lump got bigger. I can hardly swallow now. Hopefully I'll relax. Just freaking relax. We greeted Clara as always. Sam took off his hat and greeted us as well. He sure does have some manners. I like that. It was 6:00 by now. Sam and I were on the couch. I would usually be in the kitchen helping but hey, gotta cast. *cough cough* "So umm. Wanna watch the rodeo?" He said sounding nervous like me. "Umm. Yeah sure." We watched the rodeo and sat in silence for about 5 minutes. I finally spoke something. They got a 3.95 on the team roping. "Yeah! Good run." Sam looked at me and just laughed. Not in a rude way. Just simply laughed. "Sam! Katie! Dinner's done!" We turned off the TV and went to the dining room table. We said our prayers and got to eating. I was relaxed now by the slightest bit. "Ms. Reece, this Chicken Alfredo is very delicious. Thank you for making dinner." "Oh sure thing, Sam. I know your mom is worn out." "Hey Sam, how's your wrist feeling?" Asked Clara. "Oh. Well, not that bad really." "Do you think you could do me a favor and put some water for the horses and chickens?" "Oh sure thing."

We ate some more and rested for 5 minutes. By we I mean Sam invited me. Great. Just great... We started walking. There was a paved path to the barn and pens. It was just silent. Nothing but silence till we got there. "Can you turn the water on for me, please?" "Yup" I said with that damn lump in my throat still.

Sam's POV

We were so quiet. This was kinda weird. How did we get this quiet? It was getting cloudy. How? It was real hot the other day. Boom. Thunder. Lightning. It was a little ways away but it was moving in quick. We weren't even halfway done yet. "Woah. Did you see that too?" Katie piped up. "Oh yeah. We may have to stay in here. It's coming in quick." "Yeah. That's okay. I like it in here." "Me too, honestly." We sat down next to each other on the hay bales. The rain started coming down. Getting faster and faster. "Katie. If you don't mind me asking," I had to take a pause. This probably wasn't a good question but I'm asking it. It's too late to back down. ",,,who's Mason exactly?"

Katie's POV

Why was he asking out of the blue who Mason was? It's okay. It's okay. "It's okay, Sam. Well, he was an old boyfriend. He basically treated me like trash. He cheated on me multiple times but  stayed. He was my first boyfriend. We broke up a year ago. I don't know why he acted like that the other day. I'm sorry. I'm just pouring out all my feelings on you." "Katie. Don't even worry. I've been through the same thing with my ex girlfriend. She was my everything. I found out she cheated on me with my best friend. She wanted me back. There was a lot of photos surfacing the school between them two. We had been dating since 7th grade." "Oh Sam I'm sorry to hear that." "It's okay. Everything happens for a reason I guess." There was silence for a bit. I couldn't help but hug him. That must be bad losing someone you loved like crazy. I leaned over and hugged him. It was warm. This was a different hug. He put his hands around the top of my back. I buried my head in his neck. I moved my head back with my eyes closed and kissed him. He didn't move. Didn't pull away. Just a quick kiss on the lips. Nothing more. Everything went away. All my worries. It was like he was there for me. Or was he? Was he doing this just for pleasure? Or did he mean it? The two seconds lasted longer than I thought...
