Ambrose made sure he didn't mess up this time. He got home early. Took a quick shower, put on casual clothes, got into one of his expensive sports cars and was ready to go. He wanted to make a good first impression with his kids.
He arrived 30 minutes early. Larissa wasn't pleased to see him. He could see it in her eyes. He didn't blame her.
"Jamie, Lisa come quick your dad is here" the kids were upstairs.
"We'll be right there mom" they sounded excited. After what seemed like an eternity they came out. Lisa was wearing a pretty pink dress. She looked like a Disney princess. Jamie was wearing navy blue jeans and a white T-shirt. Their hair was neatly combed. They both looked adorable. Larissa was definitely taking good care of them, no doubt about that.
Larissa formerly introduced them to Ambrose. They liked him instantly.
Jamie barely touched his food, he wanted to play video games with his dad. Lisa wanted to have a tea party with him. Ambrose was glad they adored him. Maybe after seeing how much their children loved him she'd change her mind. He played with them, told them interesting stories and eventually took them to bed.
"They're quite a handful" he broke the silence. Larissa was sitting on the couch watching TV. "Yeah" she was not in the mood to make polite conversation. He sat next to her. "Don't even think about it Ambrose. Touch me and I'll break your hands". Whatever progress he had made had been destroyed. It was all Cindy's fault.
Ambrose couldn't handle the awkward silence. Just then a phone beeped. It was Larissa's phone. She had one message from Keith. She read it and smiled the prettiest smile Ambrose had ever seen.
What could make her smile like that? He was so curious.
"What does it say? " he knew she wouldn't tell.
"None of your business Ambrose" she answered coldly.
He shrugged and then left, more curious than ever.
