Every time I see the city at night it gets more beautiful, yet still not as beautiful as her. Her face is flushed with pink as we climb down each flight of stairs. Her hand in mine, our feet stomping down each step, making the loudest amount of noise possible even if she can't walk down stairs in those heels. I am filled with an emotion that I only feel with her. I could cry with excitement at any moment and it feels like I am on top of the world. My chest feels like it weighs a thousand pounds in the best way possible. And Anaelle, her face shining so bright. Her smile even brighter. She looks genuinely at ease with herself, even if she is dreading this trip tomorrow. I have to try and make this night special. I have to give her something about me to think about while she's away this weekend, surrounded by the comfortability of her boyfriend.
"It actually smells good out here!" She exclaimed as we entered the night air. She dropped my hand and waved her arms in the around, I'm guessing to gesture towards the scent of something sweet.
I laughed and she turned to me.
"Okay...okay. I'll let you know where we are going." She said finally after a few minutes of silent walking.
"No, I don't want to know. Surprise me." I smiled and she raised her brows.
Every Thursday night in a small section of Central Park they have this neon light show. Basically what it is, is a giant outdoor exhibit with rooms sectioned off. In each room, there is a beautiful array of neon lights crafted into statues or quotes. I've always wanted to go, but never have. Until tonight.
"I think I know where you're taking me." I told Anaelle as we entered the park. She snapped her fingers and playfully rolled her eyes.
"Ya caught me."
I wanted to ask her why she was so happy. I wanted to ask her why she was giving me this chance, and does it mean I have a chance in the future? She is so strange in her ways of thinking.
As we were waiting in line, we were surrounded by people who wanted to go in as well. The people who ran this place knew how to throw a good party on the outside though, because there was a huge group of people dancing and laughing and talking while waiting in line. The blasting music coming from the building was a little to modern for me, it sounded like The 1975, and I guess they are very danceable mixed with the alcohol being served here at a little bar on the outside.
After about 10 minutes of waiting, I looked over at Anaelle who has bobbing her head to the music. I stifled a smile but was caught.
"Why are you smiling like that?" She punched me in the shoulder gently.
"I just can't stop myself around you. You're so funny." I laughed again and covered my mouth, when I looked over to Anaelle she looked confused. Not angry, just confused.
"Funny? No one has ever called me that. How am I funny?" She bit her nails.
"It's hard to explain. Just trust me that I wholeheartedly meant it in the best way possible."
"Okay." She said, looking up at me. "I trust you."
The first room we entered immediately reminded me of Anaelle. But how could it not with the blue lights sprung across the black room, radiating off her face and giving her this absolutely beautiful glow. The sign was a blue smiley face, followed by a blue frowny face. I would like to believe the blue represented the melancholic feel of the frowny face, but I don't think the artist read that much into it.
"This reminds me of you." I spoke softly as my fingertips touched the warm pole of light that formed the huge array of faces.
"This one?" She pointed to the happier of the two, "Or this one?" Her finger pointed to the sad one.
