Melanie's POV
That night was unforgettable. After a few days passed, I could still remember the feeling of my heart cracking into tiny, sharp, razor blade pieces that made my insides feel like they were being sliced open. Jace ended up staying the night on the love seat while I slept on the couch. There was no way I could sleep in that bed again. It was a bunk bed, so Caleb and I never actually slept in the same bed. But even though, I would still have haunting visions stuck in my head whenever I looked into the doorway of that room. Part of me wanted to give up on everything, but the rest of me knew I was strong enough to get through this mess.
Jace has been pretty busy the past few days, so he hasn't really come around. He knows I'm hurt, and I know he cares.
As I finished up on some homework while watching 'Friends', there was a knock at the door. Setting my stuff down, I made my way to the door, unlocked it, and opened it up to see Jace standing there with a handsome smile.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," I smiled back at him, motioning for him to come inside. He looked a bit nervous, which quickly caught my attention.
The blue eyed boy took a seat on the couch, and looked at me like he wanted some company. I sat down next to him. As we sat in silence for a few minutes, I rested my head on his shoulder, sighing happily. His muscles relaxed a little bit, but the tension was still there.
"What's wrong, Jace?" I asked, breaking the silence.
He hesitated before moving to face me, "Mel I need to tell you something," those blue eyes stared into my frightened ones. But then he spoke again, "well really, I need to ask you something."
"I'm all ears," I smiled, trying to stay relaxed and happy.
Jace and I sat face to face on the couch with our legs crossed. Gently, he took my hands, rubbing his thumbs on mine.
"Melanie, I know you just went through a break up and it might be too soon," he began, hesitating once more, "but I love you more than I've ever loved another girl. Wanna be my girlfriend?" The words spilled out of his mouth, rushing a wave of happiness and excitement through me.
As I stared there blank faced, zoning out into my own little world, his shoulders sunk. "It's okay if you don't wan-"
"Yes!" I squealed like a little girl, making him smiley and wide eyed. His arms pulled me into a hug, which I returned. "I love you, Mel," he whispered into my ear.
"I love you too, Jace."
