*Jace's POV*

I sat there up high on the balcony of the dorm, watching the sunrise. Everything seemed so empty without Melanie here. It seemed less fun and full of energy and excitement.

Now of course her brother doesn't like me, and he has every right to hate me. But he can't just control his own sister like that. Mel had told me about his over protectiveness, but I wasn't expecting something quite like this. I mean come on, she's safe with me, Daniel just doesn't want to think so.

My sleepy eyes shifted over to the empty seat next to me, and I sighed deeply. Then I took a drink from the glass bottle next to me. One bottle turned into two, maybe three, or maybe four.

The whole day was lazy and full of deep sighs. I stumbled around the dorm, accidentally tripping and knocking things over.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't drink her away.

She needed to leave my mind, and Daniel made clear of that. Maybe it was best just to start on a fresh page, and by that I mean going back to the old douche player I was. It was easy now for me to see the impression I have on people, but why do all of the ladies swarm me like pooh bear around honey?

My fingers wrapped around my phone, ready to text Melanie. Instead, I stopped myself.

I watched tv, I made my bed, and I even loaded the dishwasher, but no matter how much distraction, chores, or drinks, Melanie Adamski would not escape my mind.

Ready to pull my hair out of my head, I took finished another bottle which may have been my sixth today, then next thing I knew it, I had my phone pressed to my ear, hearing a ringing noise coming from it.

"Hey, sorry I can't talk right now, leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!"

There was a loud beep.

"Heyyy Melanie," I laughed. "Melanie?" After saying her name numerous times in my drunken voice, I pressed end.

Maybe she'll listen to it, but it'd be better if she didn't.

Sleepiness washed me away, leaving me in a curled up mess on the couch.

I was woken from my sleep as loud, sweet music came from my phone. That ring tone was one I could sense right away. Cigarette Daydreams by Cage The Elephant played, making me jump up and grab my phone, pressing answer and holding it up to my ear.

"Heyy babe," I answered, obviously still not sober.

"Jace? Are you okay?" Her sweet, angelic voice sang from the heavens, leaving me satisfied.

I missed her voice, and her smell, and her face, her everything.

But someone called her brother had to ruin my first love for me.

"I love your voice.. Didja know that Mel?"

I knew she was smiling from the other side, but I also know she was concerned.

"Jace, are you drunk?" She asked, her voice lowering as if she doesn't want anyone to hear her.

"Ding ding ding, we have a winner!" I shouted.

She let out a big sigh and hung up. Well okay then.

A few hours later, I woke up on the floor with a big headache. Yawning, I got up and checked my phone. The first thing I noticed was that my calling app was open, and it said I've called Mel about fourteen times. So I pressed her name, hopefully being able to apologize.

"What do you want." A male voice said.

"Melanie?" Did I press the wrong name maybe?

"This is her friend, Nick," The man said.

His name swarmed my mind, and it sounded familiar. Ah I got it, it's that guard guy that Mel's brother hired to protect her.

"Can I just talk to Melanie?" I asked, keeping my calm.

But what he said next really infuriated me, "She's not a booty call, go call someone else."

"I'm not calling for that, you idiot. Why do you have her phone anyway?" This guy's making me mad.

"Because she keeps getting calls, and it's my job to protect her."

"I was perfectly capable of that. You sleep too, so you'd be missing what we missed too. Now put her on the phone or I'll find her myself." I yelled into the phone, clearly pissed off.

"Have fun with that," Nick said then hung up on me.

I've got some finding to do.
