If you're thinking of doing a rejection story, think long and hard. You've come here for a reason meaning you want a non-cliché rejection.
To sum it up, most werewolf rejections if you write them wrong are predictable and stupid. If your are doing one, at least give a good reason for them to reject their mate. I don't want to see a bunch of, " you're ugly and stupid so you can't be my mate," Rejections. It's annoying and has no point.
And maybe, make the girl reject the guy. In soooooooo many stories you see the typical, teenage, alpha male who judges the girl (or boy, idm) on their prettiness or something just by looking at them. Give the character a good and sensible reason to reject their mate and maybe the readers will be okay with, at the end of the book, them FINALLY getting together ( or maybe they just don't, which is a MUCH better choice ).
Also, you don't always need an abusive person. That just makes it weird for the reader because readers like to relate to the character and that's what gets them so engaged. The typical abused or hurt main character is overused and totally boring. Try something else, like the main character rejecting their mate maybe..
