You need a ambitious vocabulary, and that's not just on words like 'said'.Instead of using words that just come to mind the moment you write it, look in a thesaurus for more exciting words. What's more engaging?
A) ' She said, sad about what he had said to her. '
B) ' Lola screamed, hurt about what he had confessed. '
It's pretty clear if you ask me..
It really depends on what your readers prefer, but i know for a fact that millions of people (including me) don't like it when novels are filled with dull and boring words.
