Most readers want to connect with the character in some way. It's what makes the readers love the character if they are similar or like the same things. Create a realistic girl. Lots of writers make the perfect girl but to be realistic and to connect to the readers, you have to add flaws. Self consciousness, acne (which never appears in TEEN fiction ps. acne isn't really a flaw though <3 ), financial issues, failing a subject, allergic to foods, being afraid of something.
What makes a book great for me is when I read about flaws characters have and them overcoming them.
Tip.
Give every character at least TWO flaws ( and they don't have to be listed ) to make them unique and realistic
